The issue of the dispute over Kashmir is incredibly difficult to understand, and the various parties involved all have different priorities when it comes to the issue. In the next paragraphs I will be covering India and Pakistan’s main priorities surrounding the dispute. Then I will continue to shed light on the main priorities of people who are closely affected by the conflict. Even though the 50 year war between India and Pakistan has devastated both countries in many ways; their main focus remains on Kashmir. It is obvious that the wellbeing of their devastated countries is last on their list of priorities. This is a quote from the ministry of foreign affairs of Pakistan, “While Pakistan is committed to a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir Jammu dispute…Pakistan will continue to extend full political, diplomatic, and moral support to the legitimate Kashmiri struggle.” Although Pakistan claims to be dead set on peace they later contradict themselves in the quote; stating that no matter what they will fight for Kashmir. The President of India however seemed to be focused on another matter entirely. “We are publically committed to the abolition of nuclear weapons…and will not engage in in an arms race, but India will maintain a minimum credible nuclear deterrent-no more no less- for her own security.” This is an obvious attempt to make India look like the good guy to the world when we
take a moment to look at the Kashmir struggle. There was not one thing however in the primary source text that conveyed a consideration of the wellbeing of Kashmir residents or the effect of this on Indian citizens.
Even though Indian government ignores the pleas of Kashmir a citizen that doesn’t change the overwhelming need for change, coming from Kashmir citizens. Thousands are affected on a daily basis by the chaos caused by India, and Pakistan. This quote coming from the Jammu and Kashmir people’s Democratic Party helps
