Kathleen De Rose in her poem
“selfless” describes selflessness as this eternity that is a goal to work towards. Selflessness comes from what's inside, and “being true to what you believe in” is a big part of that. De Rose also describes how “hiding from responsibility” can affect one's journey on the road to selflessness. “Responsibility’ meaning our human nature and how we initially react to people in need. When seeing others in need we want to help but are resistant. To be truly selfless we need to see other as equals. One should create their own journey into selflessness. They shouldn't follow what others have laid out ahead of them, be different and make your own path. The journey of selflessness “sets your spirit free” and many people strive to obtain this trait. The statement setting your spirit free is the goal that De Rose is describing. The statement means that if you do what your human nature actually compless you to do your worries will be set free. Being selfless lets one be their true self, and pass it forward to enforce others to do so as well.
