After reading Kaylin Cantor’s “Turn the Nightmares off” I immediately liked how Kaylin used Narrative form in her poem because it felt from beginning to end like a story. The theme if story I could sense from the beginning that it would be of someone in captivity. And what came to mind at that moment was of a man as a slave on the ship in the years that slavery existed. This was a reoccurring theme throughout the entire poem. I believe that the larger meaning behind the poem is that she wanted us to become aware of this slave’s endless suffering and longing to regain his freedom again in any form he could have it.
