My grandfather Keith Leon Mooney was born in La Grande Oregon on October 30th 1948 to his parents Delores and Donald Mooney. He was the youngest of three children with an older sister, and brother. Growing up in Nebraska at the age of thirteen they had a change in heart to move back to Oregon. There he graduated from La Grande high school. Fresh outta high school he was drafted into the Vietnam War of 1969. While at war he had to leave behind his high school sweetheart, his wife also later known as my grandmother Donna Mooney. The Vietnam War was America's longest war and fought in Southeast Asia. It lasted nineteen years, five months, four weeks, and one day. The war began November 1, 1955. There were over three million casualties in this war and a total of 2.59 million Americans served their country. One of those brave men i call grandpa served in the 82nd Airborne Division. They thought very highly of the soldiers and were proud to feed and spend time with the men. For special occasion dinners they would serve the soldiers a gourmet treat. It was described as a reed wrapped around hogs eyes boiled and given to the men. It was nice for the soldiers to celebrate together and was a bonding moment. After coming back from the Vietnam War he began to start a family. On July 26, 1971 he became a dad and welcomed his first born girl Andra Kay Mooney known as my mom. About two years later he was blessed again by welcoming his second baby boy Cory Mooney. He was working for Albertsons Bakery in La Grande, Oregon when he got news he was being transferred to the one on States street in downtown Boise, Idaho.
