Kennesaw Student Culture Report

Community is an American Television Sitcom Created by Dan Harmon that Premiered on NBC Jay Z once said, “Nobody built like you, you design yourself.” This quote embodies a campus’ culture tremendously. There are no two colleges that have the same culture. Kennesaw State University’s culture is like no other school and it is completely unique to Kennesaw. The students at this school shaped the culture of KSU into what it is today. Here at Kennesaw there is a wide variety of characteristics that go into our culture. The events I attended focused in on just a few of them, but I believe they are the most important ones. The first event I attended was Lip Sync, which occurred during homecoming week. Overall, there is a huge sense of community, which I find the most important. I not only noticed this at every single thing I went to, but I’ve noticed a sense of community in my everyday life here at Kennesaw. At Lip Sync, there was also a culture of inclusivity and competition, on top of community. Even though I’m not in a sorority, the girls I sat with still treated me as a friend and not as an outsider. Lip Sync’s culture was very interesting in the way that there was a strong sense of competition while still bringing everyone together to show Kennesaw’s culture of community. The Lupe Fiasco concert had a large sense of community as its culture. I’m assuming a large majority of the people didn’t know any of his songs besides Lupe’s most popular one, (like myself) but the whole performance was still so much fun and I think that was largely due to the crowd. At the football game, there was an immense amount of community and obviously, competition as well. It was so great to see how spirited and passionate Kennesaw State students are. Everyone around me was so captivated in what was happening and cheered until they couldn’t possibly scream anymore. When you’re jam packed into the stadium, standing with all the other students, there is a certain energy in the air that is almost unexplainable unless you experience it for yourself. It gives you a huge sense of school pride. The enormous sense of community in the culture here at KSU certainly adds to my college experience and makes going to this school incredibly
