Kerrie's Challenge Case Summary
In the case of Kerrie's Challenge: Leading a unpopular change it exemplifies a direct violation of Henry Fayol's unity of direction principle. The unity of direction principle states that all members of a group work towards the same objective (Lester, 2006).Kerrie's team members all learn of the changes that had to be made immediately, but not all of them agreed with Kerrie's decision. Her decision not only had team member disagreeing but it also impacted Kerrie's relationship with her team mates. Kerrie tried to overcome this by trying to listen to the members opinions and concerns and even considering them. The neighbor next door over heard the altercation but he didn’t think anything of it. He then went back to sleep and decided to check on her in the morning like he always does. That morning he went to see if she was okay, as he walked over there he noticed the door was open. He quickly became aware of Ella’s death. He ran back home to call the police.     For example, cohesiveness is seen when Jim obtains Pam an interview in the same city he is in. It seemed their goal was to get her to Philadelphia so that they could be together.     Katko v. Briney was a battery tort case that occurred in Iowa in 1971. The plaintiff, Marvin Katko was illegally infringing on private farmland and entered a farmhouse with signs warning “No Trespassing”. This farmhouse had been victim to several past burglaries and the owner, defendant Edward Briney wanted to take this issue up on himself. Briney installed a homemade trap composing of his 20 gauge spring-loaded shotgun to a bedroom door. Whoever was to open the booby-trapped door, would be shot in the legs, avoiding any fatal consequences. Marvin Katko illegally trespassed the farmhouse with the intention of collecting bottles and antiques from the house. Katko regretfully opened the trapdoor, injuring himself and needed to be hospitalized. Katko sued for damages against Briney. By inflicting deadly force on another individual, this case become more of human rights issue than a potential trespassing violation. Certain inquiry that the Supreme Court of Iowa may have had would be in regard to if deadly force within private property is permissible to protect and secure private space. Also the court must ask, to what extent and in what situation is using such deadly force within your rights allowed. According to the Prosper on Torts, it states that “the law has always placed a higher value upon human safety than upon mere rights in property, it is the accepted rule that there is no privilege to use any force calculated to cause death or serious bodily injury to repel the threat to land or chattels, unless there is also such a threat to the defendant's personal safety as to justify a self-defense.” The court came to the clear conclusion that “No privilege exists to use force intended or likely to cause death or great bodily harm to prevent trespass to land or chattels unless the trespass threatens death or great bodily harm to the occupier or user of the land or chattel.” The reasoning behind why the court decided the case this way was…

    They do not want to engage or give input on the task, and will do whatever is decided amongst the other team members. Teams need the pairing statements and wanting respect. The pairing statements can come from having a good relationship with your team. Having team building events can get the team closer and get to know each other. Counter pairing is good to a point, where business is business and nothing is personal. However, you have to have a business and personal relationship with your team members to be a successful team. The work statements are the most important. You have to have these statements or why are you in a group at all. We all come together to make sure we are all on the same page on the tasks that need to be done to get to reach the successful end goals.
