Ketogenesis Persuasive Speech
The world’s most common problem today, is what we eat. Foods that we eat can be broken down into many different categories- carbs, sugars, proteins, and fats. Many people turn to many different diets to help for many different reasons. For example, people who eat unhealthy, and want to focus on what they eat and their exercise habits. Others play sports and want to focus on their physical status. And some people diet to focus on weight loss, so they can look a certain way. The ketogenic diet is one option of dieting, and provides a low-carbohydrate diet, which focus primarily on how your body will force itself to stay in a glycogen deprived state as well as to maintain a mild state of ketosis- which burns the fats to create energy. Ketogenesis is important, and requires energy from certain organs in your body, for example, your brain. This is why it is important to eat healthy throughout the diet. If there isn't enough ketogenesis going on throughout your body, there could be a result of a mass production of ketone bodies, also known as ketoacidosis. This could then lead to diabetes, which over time leads to kidney failure, and even death. Excess ketones can be removed from the body through the lungs, which results from sometimes a fruity smell of breath. If a high level of ketones are produced, then it shows that there is low insulin. When there is no carbs for the body to burn, and meaning that the body doesn’t have access to glucose, the body burns the fat which creates ketones for fuel for the brain and body. If your body doesn’t take enough protein and fat, then the body will start to burn the muscle tissues in order to create …show more content…
Scientists have found many pros that allowed many different benefits to people when they have dieted with the ketogenic diet. By following the ketogenic diet, it lowers blood sugar levels from the foods that are eaten. Studies have also shown that it helps prevent and manage diabetes compared to low-calorie diets. This also allows mental focus, due from the ketones that allow fuel for the brain. It also reduces the craving for something sweet. Not only does it allow weight loss, but also lower blood pressure, helps with less acne and better skin, fewer migraines, improved mental health symptoms, better fertility, and so more. Another important thing that the ketogenic diet helps with is epilepsy and even cancer. One thing that is great with helping those who struggle with epilepsy and continue this diet, is that no medication is required. Studies have shown that cancer cells have fed off of sugar, and this diet is all about cutting that out. Cancer cells don’t know how to use ketones as fuel, so overtime, the cancer cells reduce and eventually diminish the cancer cells. “Many studies on low-carb diets also show better improvement in blood pressure over other diets” (Diet Doctor). There also many cons that follow up with the ketogenic diet. Once you begin the ketogenic diet, your body must adapt and this will take about one to two weeks.
