How reliable do you think autobiographies are? This is a very controversial question that can be argued on both sides. But for this essay, we are going to leave it up to your opinion but I’m going to give you mine. In the autobiography ‘Kidnapped’ written by Olaudah Equiano, is one of the first tirmes we hear about the journey of a slave from a firsthand point of view. The thing is, can we trust an official document like the Constitution to be true facts just as much as Equiano’s autobiography of the declaration of sentiments to be the most reliable way to report history. The autobiography ‘Kidnapped’, by Equiano is his point of view on the journey on slave ships to America. The story shows first hand the conditions on the ship and the treatment he received by the white slave owners. One time that shows just how cruel the owners were, they went fishing, ate the fish that were caught, and then threw the leftovers back into the ocean therefore wasting them. The counter to this is people can also lie in there autobiography. They can add details to make things seem a bit more dramatic. They also could change the order of the way events happened and change the story to make them look like the good guy. For example, if the autobiography was written by a white slave owner on the ship, we would never get the same story. They would
I believe that it depends on who wrote the autobiography and the content around the event. The same can be said about the Constitution. I think it has more of a solid foundation as far as facts backing it up instead of just one person’s story. This is different in the case of the Declaration of Sentiments, because it is written by biased women acting out of feelings.
