beliefs in how North Korea should be ran. He took many steps in to accomplishing what
he has today, and has had many effects on North Korea. He is Kim Jong-Il and he is the
president of North Korea.
Many things led to Kim Jong-Il’s taking over of North Korea. Kim Jong-Il was born February 16, 1942 in Khabarovsk, Russia. He attended the Manyongdae Revolutionary School that was set up for Kim Il-Sung’s descendants to train them as future leaders of North Korea. In 1964 Kim Jong-Il began his career in the WPK Secretariat Organization Guidance Department, and then created the Three Revolutions Team Movement in 1973. Kim Jong-Il promoted himself to the ranks of Communism’s founding fathers. He dedicated his life to strengthen his father’s image and his power in the government no matter what he had to do to get peoples attention. Kim started making and developing nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction. Kim also sponsored terrorism and demanded absolute obedience and respect from the people. To show that Kim would not be fooled with he planned a bombing in 1983 Rangoon, Burma which left seventeen South Korean government officials dead, and another bombing in 1987 of a Korean airlines flight that killed everyone on board. If there were people not treating him in absolute respect, he believed severe punishment should be involved (Szcepanski 1).
