Eric Harris was a psychopath; this fact allowed him to commit a terrible crime without feeling empathy or remorse for his victims. However, on the outside he was anything but antisocial (or criminal). Eric smoke, drank, dated—all within a close circle of friends. Yet, he was excellent at manipulation. His lies were so finely tuned that even his ex-military father suspected nothing. Eric received a slew of A’s from his teachers; every single one of them considered him a “good kid”. No one ever suspected that anything as devastating or horrifying could erupt from such a well-rounded kid from a nice family. This is why Dave Cullen’s description of Dylan Klebold who “tried extremely hard to emulate Eric” was not mistaken. Although Dylan was considerably smarter…

Kinsey is a movie that portrays the life and studies of Dr. Alfred Kinsey, a man who revolutionized the way Americans perceive sex and sexual activities. The movie starts out with Kinsey as a child, and shows how he was brought up as a Christian, his overbearing father was a pastor, and was also very strict. He had always been taught that masturbation was a sin, but he did it anyway. His father had decided where he was going to college, but he decided to go elsewhere instead. He very much liked to study gall wasps, and went all over the world collecting them. In the class he taught where he talked about gall wasps, he met one of his students, Clara, and they ended up falling in love and got married. When Kinsey decided to teach a marital sex class, the school board was hesitant at first, but finally gave him the opportunity. Many people took the class, and many people were shocked at some of the material that was presented in the class. Kinsey had a few assistants, one named Clyde Martin in particular, who actually had sex with Kinsey in a hotel room for "experimental purposes." He eventually ended up having sex with Kinsey's wife too. Kinsey also had three children, a son and two daughters, and they would all talk about sex at dinner at night, which Kinsey's son didn't enjoy. Kinsey and his assistants, and their wives, had a strange relationship in that they would all switch partners on occasion. They were kind of like a big group of Swingers. Eventually Kinsey ended up being very publicly criticized for his work about female sexuality, but his wife and his close friends stayed with him.…
Richard Kuklinski was born on April 11, 1935. He lived in a housing project in Jersey City, New Jersey with his siblings and parents. He was one out of three boys and had a sister. Richards mother raised him in a Catholic Church where he eventually became an altar boy. His father worked as a brakeman for the railroad and his mother Anna worked for a meat packing plant. His father was an alcoholic and his mother was a strict catholic. Both Richards parents were abusive. They would harshly beat him and his brothers. In the HBO documentary: "Iceman tapes, conversations with a killer" Richard Kuklinski was asked about his father and he said "I didn't like my father because he would beat me just because he felt like it, to get my attention I guess. He would think nothing of coming in and smacking me. He would just come in and give you a whooping for no reason what's so ever. When asked about his mother he said "My mother was cancer she would destroy everybody. She thought I took to long to do something she didn't hesitate to give me a swat here and there and she didn't just use her hands. She would hit me with a broom stick or something like that." As a result of the sever abuse going on in the Kuklinski home Florian ,Richards older brother was killed by their father Stanley. The family covered the killing by saying that it was an accident and that Florian fell down a flight of stairs. As a child Richard was victimized , constantly getting picked on and bullied by a group of his kids in his neighborhood. He began torturing animals at the age of 10. He would tie cats together by their tails and watch them attack and kill one another. Richard dropped out of school in the eigth grade and at some point in his childhood his father abandoned him and his family . Richard killed his first victim when he was 14. He beat Charlie Chase to death which was the boy he taunted and bullied him. In the HBO documentary: "Iceman tapes: conversations with a killer" Richard spoke about…
A qualitative and quantitative research-based paper by Albert Kopak (2014) was written to explore the officer's views of being recorded in the line of duty and designed to understand the reasoning behind why civilians would want to record them. The first strength of the article was the sample size for the internet-based survey. This is an important aspect for the research, when considering how difficult it can be to find officers willing to include themselves for a research study. A total of 71 sworn law enforcement officers employed at a variety of agencies from police departments and sheriff's offices completed the survey. The next strength was the methodology used to conduct the survey, snowball sampling approach. This study is important because it allowed the officers to refer fellow officers who were eligible for the study to the researcher. This approach allowed the researcher access to respondents that the research would not normally have the opportunity to contact. Finally, the article's conclusion was incredibly strong and informative of the results. The…

Philip "Kip" Kinkel was born on August 30, 1982 in Springfield Oregon(TruTv). Growing up Kip had an interest in firearms from an early age(PBS). At first his father did not like the idea, but later he enrolled him into a gun safety course and bought him a .22 caliber Ruger long rifle and eventually a 9 mm Glock handgun when he was 15(PBS). During an interview with Newsweek Kip said that his psychologist told his father to "let Kip have the guns, for it will be a good outlet(PBS)." However, the outlet he eventually used them for was anger and revenge. It all started on May 20, 1998 when Kip brought a loaded, stolen handgun to school(NYT,Nov11). It was a .32 Beretta pistol loaded with 9 rounds(TruTv). A friend of Kip’s, Korey Ewert, had stolen the pistol from the father of one of his friends, and sold it to Kip for $110(TruTv). When the owner of the gun, Scott Keeney, noticed that his firearm was missing he immediately called the police and reported it(TruTv). While talking with the police Mr. Keeney gave the names of several high school students that he believed might have been involved in stealing his handgun(TruTv). However, even though Kip 's name was not on the list the school called him to the office to see if he knew anything(PBS). Kip said: "Look, I 'm gonna be square with you guys; the gun 's in my locker(PBS)." As a result, Kip was suspended from school and later arrested along with Korey Ewert(NYT,May23).…
O’Brien uses Kiley’s character, along with others, to show how unhealthy it is to repress your emotions and simply ignore reality. “Thank God for Rat Kiley. Every so often, maybe four times altogether, he trotted back to check me out. Which took courage. It was a wild fight, guys running and laying down fire… but Rat Kiley took the risks”(page 180). As a medic Rat Kiley is constantly playing the hero, crossing through gunfire to attend to his soldiers’ wounds. Consistently repressing his emotions and fear it comes with no surprise that Kiley suffers from a psychotic break. In the chapter Night Life, the war becomes too much for Rat Kiley.“Rat Kiley finally hit a wall. He couldn’t sleep during the hot daylight hours; he couldn’t cope with nights”(page 211). It becomes clear that Kiley never learned how to deal with his emotions and slowly broke down until he shot himself in the foot. The war took too much of a toll on him and without adopting any coping mechanisms he resulted to physically hurting himself to get out of the war.…
However, this appeared untrue in Kelemoke’s egalitarian society. After the incident took place and the punishment was over he continued a normal life. Five years later he is one of the most respected men in the village. He also married and had two children. In the complex case involving Tieng and his sister Aang they were forgiven after they cleaned their community. Washington was forced to be on the registered sex offenders list for his crime for the rest of his life. The crime itself may not have caused such a negative stigma for him but sharing a spot on a list with men who raped preschoolers caused people to have a hatred towards…
