Kira Salak's Adventure In 600 Miles To Kayak
In 2005, the brave Kira Salak decides to travel up the Niger river alone, in a kayak. The book “600 Miles to Timbuktu”, by Kira Salak it tells all about her adventure. She started in Malain and had to go all the way to Timbuktu. The day she wanted to leave a major thunderstorm hits. Thunder booms and lightning streaks the sky. But no matter what the weather, she was going to make it to Timbuktu.

Another event that happened during this long trip was, as Salak was traveling the calm river, the weather instantly turned violent. Waves higher than her kayak crashed against her. Traveling inch by inch, she tries to get out, but the river didn’t want to let go and it ended up ripping a muscle in her right arm. But even in pain, she still fights

    We were all sucked dry from the sun that day with zero energy left, we scavenged what we could and we still ate better than we could have at any local dinner. The day was still long and was only going to get hotter and longer even as the day came to a close. There was more things to do around the land than there was at any theme park. So as we all sat around and waited for something to do you could tell that everyone was thinking the same thing as sweat poured down all of our faces.
