Kirk Douglas Brown Case Study

Kirk Douglas Brown is a 53-year-old African American leader from Compton, California. Kirk is an honorably discharged combat veteran with 8 years of military service, and a non-traditional college student. As a veteran, he learned the value of tenacity and determination. Serving your country and attending college is a very challenging experience. In the mist of being a parent Kirk was able to matriculate through the California college system with an Associate’s in Art (A.A.) in graphic Design from Los Angeles Trade Technical College, is an alumni of California State University of Long Beach where he earned a Bachelors in Fine Arts (B.F.A.), and is currently enrolled as a Candidate for Masters in Social Work at the University of Southern California.
He is married to Dionne Brown and they are the proud parent of two boys, Kirklund age 17, and Kamron age 9.
The quest to become a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated was put into motion because Kirk was trying to prepare his sons to become men of standards. Being a parent of a mentee afforded Kirk the opportunity to witness first-hand the skills of Alpha Men, as they transform young souls. Kirklund has been a mentee for the past 2 years with Elite Scholars, a mentoring program offered by XI Iota Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha. Guided by intuition, which Kirk refers to as his sixth sense has allowed him to meet people who would guide him through life. These people were member of the community – coaches, teachers, parents of friends, the church and military leader. All who invested more than money they gave time and poured love into this young soul. Today he stands tall, is a up standing member of society and a great example of the product of a caring community. As an older member of society, Kirk feels a personal obligation to uplift his community to make it safe for his children to go-out to play. Kirk believes with all his life’s experiences he has something to give – Wisdom.
