In history, the Crusades, the religious battles between the Christians and the Muslims, occurred because Christians desired to earn the happiness that comes from wealthier and stronger country, while Muslims had desire to keep and protect it. Around 1050, Christian countries in Western Europe were in great chaos. Knights started to steal peasants’ properties instead of earning money by fighting in battles because of the peace treaty, which caused the number of battles between European countries to decrease significantly. Also, since the Muslims were in charge of Jerusalem, the Holy Land, many Christians couldn’t make their pilgrimages to Jerusalem, which caused the church to slowly loose their power. In order to solve the problem, Pope Urban II, the Christian Pope, gathered knights to re-conquer Jerusalem out of the Muslims. He strongly believed that starting the Crusades will make people’s lives happier since it will stop the unruly knights from bothering peasants and since it will bring more power to church by letting Christians to continue their pilgrimages to Jerusalem. Most Christians who wanted to live wealthier lives agreed to Pope Urban II’s idea and decided to attend the Crusade since he also promised that he will provide land and money for the people who attend the battle.
On the other hand, the Muslims who were in charge of Jerusalem didn’t want to let Christians to steal their land since Jerusalem was also the Holy Land for the Muslims, since many Muslims were maintaining their wealthy lives by pirating Christian pilgrims who were making their ways to Jerusalem, and since the Muslims knew that if they don’t fight against the Christians, they will end up stealing their
