With the sudden population increase there, Yukon Territory became it’s own territory separate from the Northwest territories. It was split to fit the need for local government due to the influx of prospectors.

Klondike Gold Rush On August 16, gold was located in Klondike, Yukon. Which person discovered it remains a mystery. However, it was found by the group George Carmack, his wife Kate Carmack along with her brother Jim Skookum, and their nephew Dawson Charlie while they were traveling south of the Klondike River.

1897 - The Rush Begins!
During Spring, the population in Dawson City increases to 1,500 because of gold.
During Summer, the population in Dawson City increases to 3,500.
On July 14, a steam ship named "The Excelsior" arrives in San Francisco with half of a million dollars’ worth of gold. Stories of the gold rush have already gotten into U.S.A.
On July 17, a steam ship docked in Seattle and unloaded about a million dollars worth of gold.
On October, the Klondike Gold Rush is major news that Seattle newspapers wrote eight pages about it and sent it across America.
During Autumn - A staked claim at Cheechako Hill results about a half million dollars.
1898
Gold Rush!! On April, due to extreme weather conditions, an avalanche kills more than 60 people on the Chilkoot Trail.
During Spring, the population spikes up to 30,000 people in the Yukon all because of the gold. On May 29, around 7,000 boats start going to the frozen Dawson River in search of more gold and a new jackpot.
On June 13, Yukon is finally made a Territory. During summer, a group of 200 soldiers travel to Yukon to maintain peace between the gold
