Children always have dreams that they want to achieve when they get older. However, when they get older they start to think that to achieve their dream is something impossible; therefore, they change their dream or give up on it. Randy Pausch wrote The Last Lecture to explain how he did not give up on his dream though. He wrote about his childhood dreams and even though he had cancer and knew he was going to die, he kept striving to achieve his childhood dreams. He managed to get through life achieving most of his childhood dreams. In The Last Lecture, Pausch uses pathos, ethos, and logos to persuade readers that they can achieve their childhood dreams no matter what.…

Mickey Hess looks at the use of multiple identities by rap musicians to obscure the conflicting contradictions between authenticity and marketability. Hip hop, having budded from a culture of oppression against African-Americans, grew as a medium of resistance. Hess cites Tricia Rose’s words, stating that hip hop, in the context of resistance, wages an “ideological warfare with institutions and groups that symbolically, ideologically, and materially oppress African Americans” (pp.298). Therefore, the experience of oppression and life in the projects is central to most rappers’ identities as hip hop artists.…

African American hip hop culture gained popularity in the decades following the Civil Rights movement that ended in the 1960s. In today’s society, we refer to the music of the 1970s and 1980s as “old school” hip-hop. These songs are notable for the simple rapping techniques used as well as lyrics that primarily focus on party-related subjects. The song titled “The Message” by Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five is an example of an old school hip hop song that strayed away from the typical party-related lyrics and focused on telling a story about life in the ghetto. This song ultimately changed the content and tone of hip hop forever by accurately proving Ralph Ellison’s three-step process as part of the blues music, portraying the harsh life in the hood, and ultimately becoming one of the most successful rap songs of all time.…

The accepted date of the Kid’s death was November 23, 1859. He was born in New York City, and his childhood was as normal as any other child’s. He attended grammar school and played in the streets with all the other boys, including his brother Joseph. Though his father died when he was young, his mother remarried to a man named William Antrim. They eventually moved down to Silver City, New Mexico. The Kid began to show daring, yet loving characteristics at age twelve. He was especially admired by teachers and peers from his class. But because of his figure and characteristics, he was a target for bullying. He was rather small for his age, and had a lack in courage. His passion lied with music, singing and dancing. After his mother’s health failed and was bedridden, her husband took off and left the family when they needed him the most. Catherine Antrim died on September 16th, 1874. After her death, the children bounced from one foster home to another. According to Abraham, fate turned the kid’s lives completely upside down, and it would never be the same again.…
