Abstract.
The new trends of use of knowledge management system in business organization have increased the need to integrate the knowledge management system in higher education sector. The current means used in technical institution in knowledge management is based on the experts in various fields. The creation and transmitting is through face to face interactions, mentoring, organization, and policies, routes and procedures, reports and staff development. This method does not conserve knowledge, does not allow standardization, neither does it allow uniform and maximum sharing of knowledge. Knowledge management system can be integrated in technical education in order to improve management and its utilization. Knowledge management system provides tools for capturing, organization, delivery, tracking and assessment of various types of learning and training. The knowledge management allows improved service capability of lecturers and students improve sharing of internal and external information and improved effectiveness and

    To explore the concepts of Data, Information, and Knowledge independently is to attempt building a large and complex puzzle with only a few pieces from the box. While the relationships between these concepts can be as elusive as finding their universal definitions, it is within these relationships that data, information, and knowledge are most meaningful. In the broadest sense, data exists in the form of unorganized and raw facts about the environment that are collected and stored. The Knowledge Based Theory of the firm is also a fierce proponent of common knowledge, emphasizing that successful coordination within the organization relies largely on the presence of common knowledge between its members. At first glance, it seems this theory has completely overlooked the importance of data and information to the firm. But with deeper understanding it becomes apparent that knowledge – as well as information and data – are all largely present in the theory’s foundation.…

    This paper investigates several issues regarding the nature, domain, conceptual foundations, and practical challenges of knowledge management and organizational learning. The paper first identifies and contrasts two fundamental philosophical orientations to knowledge management -- the personal knowledge orientation and the organizational knowledge orientation -- and illustrates the distinctive kinds of knowledge management practices that result from the two orientations. It then summarizes three essential organizational processes in knowledge management: (i) maintaining learning loops in all organizational processes, (ii) systematically disseminating knowledge throughout an organization, and (iii) applying knowledge wherever it can be used in an organization. A general model of organizational learning -- the Five Learning Cycles model -- is introduced to represent how individuals, groups, and the overall organization are linked in an organizational learning process. Key challenges in managing each of the Five Learning Cycles are discussed, and examples of appropriate managerial interventions are proposed for each learning cycle. Concluding comments suggest how knowledge management processes reflect a fundamental shift in management thinking and practice from traditional concepts of command and control to more contemporary concepts of facilitation and empowerment.
