Abstract
In most settings where technology is involved, it is hard to mention the Microsoft brand and not get instant recognition. In this paper I will propose using the Microsoft Corporation as the company I will study, write about and present on. Microsoft is a large corporation which provides plenty opportunity for change. The company’s decision to undergo major organizational changes makes its story a great tool to learn from. In this paper, I will support that notion.Course Project Paper #1
The Microsoft Corporation is a company with a rich history of innovation and influence strong enough to make familiarity with their brand close to unavoidable. The company has fallen into a period stagnation, losing market share and finding itself playing catch up to other technology giants like Apple. The reshaping and rebranding of this powerhouse was inevitable. The challenges facing such a large corporation provide a great opportunity to see how change affects institutions of the size and reach.
Company Selection Microsoft’s CEO, Steve Ballmer, in an email addressed to his entire staff, let his colleagues know that the path he wanted to see the company on was one that could “innovate with greater speed, efficiency and capability in a fast changing world” (Ballmer, 2013). There are several major initiatives which are going to be used as vehicles to achieve the change envisioned by the CEO. When it comes to the end product, Microsoft plans on developing products which no longer stand alone. Products which work seamlessly with each other as a family is the model the company wants to follow. Of course, before the end products can be developed in a synergistic way, there must be a work environment which encourages such development.
