PROMPT 3 – ‘Sometimes people find themselves living in a world created by other people’
They raided our island in the lifeless of the night, the ones whom were meant to protect us. They attack the islanders, and kill the men, all to capture my father, Captain jank’s, leader of the Blood Hound Gang, his men are the most ferocious and powerful pirates in all of the north. Although my father was the captain, he was no evil man. He had come to visit his wife (my mother), as she was sick and on her deathbed, she had contracted Gangrene after the navy came and interrogated her to try and get information about Shank’s, she had no clue of his where abouts, and did not listen. All of this bloodshed for one man. They came in large numbers, guns blazing destroying all in their way. Cutting us down like cows for the slaughter, doesn’t make sense that the government would do this, attack their own people, the people who pay for them to carry out these kinds of assaults, we never expected them to do this to us. We are just a game in there schemes, they do not care what happens to us. The people were frightened and scared of what might happen to them. Running in shock but it was no use, these naval officers were ruthless, seemed almost heartless. The island was in complete chaos. My house up in the hills had not been reached yet where my father was hiding, looking after mother, I need to reach them and notify him about what’s coming; I thought to myself. So I run as fast as my body would allow through the secret path which was oblivious to the savages hunting my father, I continue up the path until I reach my house or what was left of it. I rush over to the debris, searching frantically for any sight of my mother, but it was to late, she had been shot and my father captured.
Time went on and to this day I and my crew still plunder the seas, searching for the hope that one day we might find my father “Janks”. Our crew had become ferocious pirates greatly known amongst men and talk

On December 6th a tragedy rose in Halifax harbor. But no one knew this. The town, in the author’s words “were buzzing with activity. Soft smoke curled from chimneys as mothers served up steaming bowls of oatmeal” (1) This gives a cozy mood. Readers can picture and feel the warmth and the taste of their mom’s oatmeal. Noble Driscoll is a child in this town. He in the author’s words “was fascinated by the vessels that passed in and out of the harbor”, (5) this just shows how clueless the town was. The ships Noble loved, were about to destroy what he calls home.…

I used all my force, but the captain still had the ability to hold us back as greatly as we pushed. My thoughts were returning, slowly, my depression evolved into a nostalgia of the past, convincing me to try to depart home. Some took longer than I did, and I noticed how disconsolate they actually were. Even when they didn’t want to leave, they had the most morose looks in their eyes, glistening with the tears of the people trapped inside the hollow body taken from them.…

On July 5, 1884, four sailors were cast away from their ship in a storm 1,600 miles from the Cape of Good Hope. Their lifeboat contained neither water nor much food. On the 20th day of their ordeal, Dudley and Stevens, without the assistance or agreement of Brooks, cut the throat of the fourth sailor, a 17- or 18-year-old boy. They had not eaten since day 12. Water had been available only occasionally. At the time of the death, the men were probably about 1,000 miles from land. Prior to his death, the boy was lying helplessly in the bottom of the boat. The three surviving sailors ate the boy’s remains for four days, at which point they were rescued by a passing boat. They were in a seriously weakened condition.…

All the uproar woke everyone up, but it was too late. Columbus and the Españoles had paddled us far off the shore. All I could see through my tears was Yuisa desperately trying to swim out towards us, but it was no use. The last thing I heard was her voice screaming my name as we were raised onto one of the…

A gathering of men has arrived in the bay. They arrived two nights ago, with strange contraptions they call “guns.” They don’t possess any arrows or spears, which is strange along with the fact that they are white, and fully draped in clothing. I like to spy on them when I am not doing work. From dusk until dawn, a number of them will go into the water, and sift out the dirt. I don’t know why, because there is nothing there. Father has said that he and the other men are plotting later on to attack them. How dare they invade our home, they should just turn to where they came from because they are going to die soon anyway. Most of the strange men don’t even work. They just sit around, fanning themselves and babbling.…

Sexism is defined as the overarching system of advantages bestowed upon men. As a prejudice and discriminatory ideology based on gender, founded on a patriarchal structure of male dominance promoted through individual, institutional, social, and cultural systems. As an umbrella unfairly placed above the heads of men in the presence of a monsoon, leaving the women cold, wet, and yearning for equality. The insidious ideology that fuels sexism in culture not only perpetuates misogynistic dogmatism, but poses as a direct threat to women’s safety and self-esteem in various ways. The most commonly overlooked form of sexism is the “Friend-zone”, a manifestation of misogynistic ideology created by vapid petulant men who refuse to take “no” for an answer, and is used as an excuse for aggressive male dominance as well as sexual and domestic violence. According to the friend…

The angry mob of Islanders drawn on the following pages when the Man arrives, are incredibly threatening as they are large, dark and armed. Not only is their physical presence intimidating, but their attitudes towards the unassuming Man are prejudiced and hostile. They say things like “I’m sure he wouldn’t like it here, so far away from his own kind,” to excuse themselves from responsibility and basic human compassion. Only one member of the mob, the Fisherman, presents a (merely) positive proposal by stating, “If we send him back, it will be the death of him and I don’t want that on my conscious”. Following this, the Islanders take the Man in under the lowest conditions.…

Despite the dimmed lights, I vividly recall seeing the dark red wine-like blood slowly trickling down my poor mother’s pale complexion as she desperately ventured to defend herself any way she possibly could. In agonistic shouts she demanded I flee the claustrophobic upstairs bedroom my 2 siblings and I shared. But I couldn’t. The overwhelming fear simply paralyzed every fiber of muscle in my scrawny 6 year old body and stopped any attempts I made in aiding my helpless mother. I merely managed to cowardly curl into a protective ball against the furthest reaches of the room as I tensely witnessed these traumatic events unfold. The despicable assailant, Gustavo Arizmendi, was a former well known comrade of my father. From small talk on the job to sharing cold beers after a long day at work, they gradually formed a friendship over the years.…

In our country, no one branch of government has complete power over the people. The Federal system divides the power equally among the three branches. Our three branches of government, the Legislative, Executive and Judicial branches, help keep our country from being run by one person, or a group of people. This makes the jobs of the government fairly divided between elected people and appointed people.…

At its heart is an analysis of how individuals experience the world now and in the past, using the relationship between "Being" and "Being-in-the-World" to unfold the process of "objectification" through which people set themselves apart from their world. To be human, Tilley argues, involves first creating a gap between the self and what is beyond and…
