April 26th, 1607 A gathering of men has arrived in the bay. They arrived two nights ago, with strange contraptions they call “guns.” They don’t possess any arrows or spears, which is strange along with the fact that they are white, and fully draped in clothing. I like to spy on them when I am not doing work. From dusk until dawn, a number of them will go into the water, and sift out the dirt. I don’t know why, because there is nothing there. Father has said that he and the other men are plotting later on to attack them. How dare they invade our home, they should just turn to where they came from because they are going to die soon anyway. Most of the strange men don’t even work. They just sit around, fanning themselves and babbling.

They expect us to feed them, but don’t give us anything in return. It feels like stealing. They steal our land, they steal the food, and they try to intimidate us. So we must wage war. I’ve heard them speak of us. They call us “The Savages.” If only they knew that we just want our land, and if they leave, or offer gifts, we may help them. They could be useful to us, after all.
