Korean War Memorial Research Paper
The Korean War Memorial is a beautiful memorial in Washington D.C.’s West Potomac Park. It commemorates the 54,246 US soldiers who died in the Korean War. (American Battle Monuments Commission) The Korean War war was dedicated on July 27th 1995 by Bill Clinton and the President of the Republic of Korea, Kim Young Sam. It began construction on October 28th 1986 and President George H.W. Bush conducted the groundbreaking of the Memorial. (IBOV) The $18 million memorial had a massive delay because they debated over how the war should be represented/commemorated. (New York Times 1996) It's upsetting how we've forgotten about the deaths and how poorly the memorials funding has got, it is extremely unappreciated.

The memorial was designed by Cooper-Lecky Architects, main ones including Frank Gaylord who designed the 19 stainless steel statues and Louis Nelson who designed the memorial wall.(Congressional Record) The Memorial wall was built with more than 1000 tons of black Granite and was transported for California to Washington DC. The main attraction of the Memorial is of the “Field of Service” within a triangle, in this portion there are 19 statues dressed in combat gear(different …show more content…
They chose this position because it was an honorable addition to the National Mall. This is extremely symbolic and shows how grateful we are to those who served and unfortunately lost their lives. Out of the 18 million dollars that was put into the memorial only 3 million of that was from US subsidiaries of South Korea, Korean people told their government that they wanted their money to be spent on Korea's economic problems instead of American deaths in the Korean War.
