To begin the very name of Kristallnacht, ‘Night of Crystal’, refers to the broken glass from the vandalized buildings on November 9-10, that looks like small shards of crystal. From the articles there is proof that the Jews were attacked, violated, embarrassed, and their buildings were burned. “Mobs of SA men roamed the streets, attacking Jews in their houses and forcing Jews they encountered to perform acts of public humiliation.” “. . . Nazis in Germany torched synagogues, vandalized Jewish homes, schools and businesses and killed close to 100 Jews.” It was truly a terrible two days for the Jewish community, and a turning point in the Nazis, prior to Kristallnacht Nazi police had been primarily nonviolent.
After Kristallnacht the Jews were forced to pay for the German damages to their homes, businesses, and places of worship. In the article it’s stated that the Jews were fined one billion deutch marks in the aftermath of Kristallnacht. “... the streets were covered with broken glass from all the Jewish windows. … To top it off, the Jews were charged one billion Deutch Marks to pay for the damages.” (One billion Deutch marks = $532715426.63 USD). This served as a final slap in the face to the Jews after they were massacred, even when they get murdered, raped, vandalized, and
