While playing with the Rams, during a pre-season game, there was a missed snap where the center fumbled the ball. After that play was over one of the coaches started screaming at Kurt and blaming him for the fumble. During this time he took all of the heat and did not blame anyone else showing the coaches that he has what it takes to be a great quarterback while gaining the trust of his teammates and building the bond. He took the role as a mentor when his starting QB spot was given to Bulger. During the games when Bulger started, Kurt was there to back him up one hundred percent and helped him to exceed to his highest level possible. By becoming his friend and truly showing his care for him as a player he was able to be an effective and positive mentor. Kurt was also able to become a coach when he needed to, such as when he was the back up quarterback to Eli Manning with the Giants. Kurt took it upon himself to never start a quarterback controversy when Manning was the starter, even when Manning played poorly and Kurt was brought in to finish out the game. After this took place Kurt publically said that they should never do this again because it will be best for Manning to be able to focus and not have to worry about looking over his shoulder. This was the most effective form of coaching that Kurt could do in this situation, which helped Manning become the quarterback that he has become today. Kurt Warner was able to stand out in his career because of the way that he was able to be a competent manager, effectively use his bases of power, and know when it was best to be a coach and a mentor for his teammates helping them to excel to their highest level of
