Narrative Essay About Football
Many people I know have learned many life lessons while playing the sport of football. Vince Lombardi, the Green Bay Packers former coach, has a quote that no sports editorial can disagree with. I survive by this quote every single day of my life. The quote says “Football is a great deal like life in that it teaches that work, sacrifice, perseverance, competitive drive, selflessness and respect for authority is the price that each and every one of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile.” - Vince Lombardi When I was nine years old, my dad and always tossed the football around. We were always practicing since the season was only seven days away. The faster the days went on, the more nervous I got. I knew how to do everything when I was with my dad, but I didn't know how to …show more content…
Can football be this emotional? Can it be this crazy? I still couldn't configure what my father was trying to explain to me. I was just an unintelligent 3rd grader who was playing tackle football for the first time. After two of intense weeks of practice, our first game was coming upon us. My team and had been waiting for our first game for almost our entire lives. As sprinted around the field before the game, our coach dragged all of us into the huddle. Our coach yelled that same quote that my dad had told me three weeks ago. I thought to myself, does every person who has coached or played football know that quote? Playing on the field, the team and I flight until the very end. After we lost our first game, I bellowed into bed deciphering that quote. I started google searching some of the words and finally figured it out. As multiple seasons of my football career went on, I lived on that quote on and off the field. Every single season I learned a new trait about myself. I survived off of that quote. It made me who I am as a person and as a football player. Football has turned me into the man I am

In Mark Edmundsons article “do sports build character or damage it?” Edmundson makes a very good case that supports his idea that sports can build character. He also gives good reasons as to why some people think that sports just breed brutality, and are a diversion from the business of education. Sports are a complex issue, and this article proves it is clear that we as a culture are unsure how to think about them. Edmundson goes on to tell about when he was a young man in high school, and his first year playing football. Football is a dangerous sport, and he tells of how many people get injured, whether its from concussions, broken bones, or…

“Do your job.” A simple quote by Bill Belichick (New England Patriots Head Football Coach) but this quote means a lot about my character. The reason it means a lot to me is because if you work tremendously hard and do your job your team will be successful. My head football coach, Mike Rowe uses this quote as well and adds “If everybody does your job you will be successful. Trust your teammates since they will fight for you and the rest of the team.” I am tying this quote to football but it can be used in any team sport you are involved in. Football teaches character and that’s why I love it so much. I’ve learned so much about myself and how I want to live my life just from being in football.…

“The UNC concussion research suggests that returning to the game before a concussion is especially dangerous. Sustaining a second blow before recovering from the first is far more damaging than either blow in isolation.” (BEYERSTEIN 2) With all these negative talks about the results of concussion in the NFL, it makes it difficult for many parents to put their children in Katy Youth Football or any type of football association. Although Football mainly teaches discipline and character, many parents encourage their children to stay away from the sport. Professional athletes are willing to do whatever it takes to be successful and leave a legacy in the NFL, regardless of the pain that football release on their body. In the past, players who received concussions during the games were portrayed as weak and scared to play the game. They were ignored until they decided to come back to the game. Many retired players realize it was the cause of the concussion that doesn’t make them function very well. With this major problem, they decide to hold the NFL…

There are over seven billion people on this Earth, so what is it that makes me so different? I wear Nike, I drive a car, I play video games, I have chores, and could be considered a pretty normal person. I love, I laugh, I get angry, and I have emotions just like every other human being. The one thing I heavily identify with is football. For as long as I can remember I’ve played ball, and made some great friends along the way. The picture in the top left is a great representation of this. Football has taught me lessons of leadership, perseverance, toughness, how to deal with the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows. (Bottom left: aftermath of beating Staley) Above all else, the best thing it has taught me was loyalty. Not only loyalty to a cause, but loyalty to my brothers, and ultimately my family. Football has created a foundation for my character, and without it I am certain I would not be the same person I am today.…

This quote has been the foundation for my father's belief that team sports teach commitment. When I started middle school my father insisted that I do a team sport. At the time I had been riding horses for many years and was facing a fork in the road and had to make a big decision. At 11 years old I changed the course of my life by joining a team sport in which I have learned the value of personal commitment, strong leadership skills, and how to challenge myself to achieve both mine and my teammates’ goals.…

This quote relates bad hops in baseball to obstacles in my life and making great plays to overcoming those obstacles. This brings me to my laws of life which are how to deal with failure, and how to make the best of a bad situation put before you. I will be relating both of these laws to experiences I've had in baseball. I made the realization that failure is healthy and can only make me stronger. Before I made these realizations, whenever I would fail I would get down on myself and lose confidence. I’ve also had to make the best of an unfortunate situation that occurred during the baseball season. These are my laws of life.…

It was a Friday night in mid August 1991. I was a noseguard and middle linebacker on defense, depending on the play. I also played right guard on the offensive line.
