For this paper, I have chosen to compare and contrast Grande Odalisque by Jean Ingres and La Grande Odalisque by Lalla Essaydi. I chose these pictures because I find the them to be the most appealing and the way the girl looks in both of them, it intrigues me. He blatant stare makes me wonder why, and what are the thoughts going through her head.
Grande Odalisque was a piece that was commissioned by Napoleon’s sister and means “harem women”. This painting’s subject matter for this painting would be a woman who is reclining back and laying on her side, and is wearing only her jewelry and head piece.
