Child labour is a full time job for children. Children are forced to work in awful places for hardly anything. Child Labour is a power of humankind that adults force on Children. Children can get very injured and hurt by doing the jobs that they are forced to do by their master/mistress. What Is Child Labour?
How It Works:
Child labour is when children of all ages, depending on their country work for a person called a mistress or master. Some children work in cotton mills and factories while others harvest crops and work on farms. These are some of the many child labour jobs. Children that work in these conditions often work long 16 hour days. This is hard for a lot of children to do because they can’t do such tiring work for long periods of time.
Working hours:
Working hours are long for the children. In 1802 a Royal Commission in Britain, recommended to reduce the working hours for children. Children aged 11- 18 had their hours changed to only a 12 hour day, children aged 9-11 a maximum of 8 hours per day, and children under the age of nine were no longer permitted to work. This however only applied to children in the textile industry.
Working Conditions
Children work in conditions that often involve being on the ground or climbing in objects like machinery. Many of the workshops are crowded and stuffy. Children have to work in all temperatures and conditions. Sometimes children even sleep where they work.
This is a picture of two girls who are protesting about child labour. The two girls are protesting by wearing sashes which are saying no to child slavery.
Is child labour still used?
World Wide View:
Child labour is still used in the current day, but child labour is hidden in between the cracks of the world. It is used in countries in the world for work that would otherwise not have happened. In many people’s opinions child labour is a sad and cruel thing for children to have to do when
