grow rich in their business skills.
Not including the serfs who could earn their freedom and work their land. Now, they couldn't just become rich all of a sudden because they were free, they had to work their way as to continue on because they mostly just toiled in misery. They could´ve possibly been called for the war, which would be their only excitement in their life since most were farmers. Just for the very poor people, they had always had hope, going back to that they were very religious at this time, to improve a lot in their life.
Even peasants, who are sometimes thought as desperately poor and wretched, could also improve. Some peasants were better off than others, and some even became wealthy through accumulating land. Ownership of land was an important key for success. As people having the hope to become more successful, this was indeed a period of renewal. In slow stages, the Europeans built a new civilization including the Greco-Roman and Germanic traditions within the framework of the Christian Church. The society of the middle ages was not
static, there was always hope for improvement and better themselves. Especially how the kings were very unconcerned with the people, was a place needed for improvement. The kings always needed to stay on top of things and should want to help the civilization. Luckily, there was technological innovation for example which was good for growth. Farming methods were improved, and there were inventions like spectacles, and the printing press. The printing press was basically the first printer machine which started the whole era of spreading information faster such as using newspapers. Overall the Middle Ages, were filled ups and maybe more downs, but that's not the point. The point is that there was the great change and improvement for this era. With new inventions, strong religious beliefs, and trade mastery this was a powerful win. The difference is that if the Middle Ages was characterized by despair then there would not be hope, it would just be a continuous cycle of negativity and disregardment. It was filled with hope mainly for the religious beliefs in which that case having hope and having faith come to play very well. Most people didn´t give up because they knew better was coming. Yes, of course there was plenty of time for improvement. It was called the Middle Ages instead of the Final Ages for a reason.
