Though Lady Gruoch of Scotland was the most powerful and famous woman, she had a very elegant and feminine personality. Gruoch obeyed her laws and made sure not to have any involvement in the violence surrounding her. For example around 1033, historic Malcolm II killed many close relatives of Gruoch. Unlike the strong-willed Lady Macbeth, if Gruoch had any opposition against Malcolm "her opportunities for supporting [it] were probably severely restricted" (Aitchison 52). Opposite to Gruoch's personality, Lady Macbeth has a ruthless and evil behavior. Fictional Macbeth is put in an unstable state of mind by the blood on his hands after murdering Duncan. To calm her frantic husband, Lady Macbeth shows "[her] hands [being] of [his] color, but [she] shame[s]/ to wear a heart so white" (2.2.67-68). Based on the situation Lady Macbeth expresses no negative feeling after the murder and wants Macbeth to do the same. She demands Macbeth to not have such a coward heart. Illustrating a vile personality, Lady Macbeth is not the perfect example of a woman in the medieval ages. As a great example of this topic, Gruoch of Scotland had only one son by the name of Lulach, whom she loved and protected. When she got married for a second time to historic Macbeth, Gruoch had him recognize the importance of Lulach's position in the regime. In respect towards his new beloved wife "Macbeth adopted Lulach and made the son heir" (Aitchison 51). Lady Macbeth does not appreciate human life through the proof of her actions and words. Even though Lady Macbeth does not have a child of her own, she would "dash the brains out" of the baby if it meant for a higher power (1.7.56-59). The only love in her life is her strange relationship with her husband Macbeth. She cares for Macbeth by encouraging him to achieve the highest he can reach, no matter what they have to do to achieve it. In comparison Gruoch and Lady Macbeth both had a loved one get a higher position in the regime, leading one to good wealth and the other to tragedy. Only Lady Macbeth influenced her husband to commit homicide to achieve power. In the play Shakespeare showed a strong bond only between Lady Macbeth and Macbeth to reveal a strong ambition for status.
