Language Art Assignment Analysis
In my language art assignment, I observed one of my preschool students. Here is some information about the child. He is almost five years old. He comes from very big family. He has four older siblings, he is the youngest child in the family. His family speaks two languages. The child is learning Spanish in my class. In my class, he is known for being very social. He loves to talk and ask a lot of questions. Also, he help other children when they need help. He enjoys learning new things. The child, will be transitioning with the older children soon. His pragmatic skills are very good. He is able to have full conversation with other children an share opinions with them. There are times he disagrees about things and he speaks about it. He knows how to count up to 50. He can recognize most of the letters from the alphabet and write his whole name.

On Tuesday, May 30, the child and I worked on our activity. The class focuses on activities in the morning. For language art activity, I picked a " match the letter" activity. Since the class is working on lower case alphabet letters. I thought this activity could help the child to start recognizing lower cases letters. The child

He is always eager to learn new things, new words. Whenever he wants to spells something that he is not sure how to spell, he always refers himself to the ABC poster that we have in the class.

This activity supports language arts because it teaches the child how to spell, and along the way the child was learning to recognize lower cases letters. Language art can be incorporated in different ways. In this activity, I decided to do matching because the child is interested in puzzles and any matching games.

In my opinion, this activity was helpful because it was showing the child how to spell. When we first started, he saw the picture of a pig and on the bottom he saw ''ig," he immediately reminded himself that pig starts with the letter

This activity would support communication and intellectual development, because the children all need to communicate with each other deciding who is going to take what role; the song/story also helps develop listening skills. The children need to listen and think about what comes next and decide when it is their turn to either hide their duckling or let the old lady swallow their animal this is the intellectual part of the activity. Every child is different but this activity may cover a specific aspect to support a child’s individual communicational or intellectual development need.…

The preschool age is a wonderful time for children; they start to trust other individuals beyond their family, grasp individualism, learn to be resourceful and defend themselves in their living environment in a welcoming way. Their observation of the world around them has sharpened; by investigating they have discovered what will transpire while they mingle with different individuals; the preschooler’s language goes beyond the partial jargon of a toddler.…

The assignment is to observe a child ranging in age from two to six years old completing a language arts activity. The child I observed for this assignment is an almost three year old (34 month) neighborhood girl. I will call her Emily. She lives in a house with both her parents; they are a middle class family. Emily is not in preschool yet, she stays home with her mom, but they regularly attend playgroups and music and gym classes where she gets to interact with other children her age. Emily is very outgoing and very talkative. In my opinion, her speech development is advanced for her age, she passes all the developmental language-related milestones for her age group and a few for the next age group as outlined on page 97 of our textbook (Machado, Jeanne M., 2007. Early Childhood Experiences in Language Arts - Early Literacy, 8th Edition). Also, her speech is very clear. Emily loves books and already recognizes all uppercase letters.…

Whilst spelling letters in the sand pit the children were developing in many different ways. In terms of personal, social and emotional development the children were all confident to try a new activity, initiated ideas about the sand and made links to the beach and all spoke happily in the small group. Whilst I was instructing the children as to what we would be doing they sat quietly, maintained concentration and attention. They then took off their shoes and socks independently, demonstrating they can manage their own personal hygiene by undressing. One child in particular was very keep to be shown how to draw the letters and showed a real interest to learn. It also enabled me to continue building a good relationship with the children.…

JB is a very independent child, and will only ask for help when he is completely stuck. He gets along very well with pretty much all of his other classmates. He shows many appropriate actions towards others-in helping, sharing, respect, and affection (AR, 10-07, 10-23). In all of the circle time that I have observed he has sat quietly in the circle, not touching anyone, and listens to the teacher.…

DW is very shy and not very social, she prefer her own space. DW cognitive development skill consists of repeating alphabet in a song, watching videos, and listening and speaking sounds. My observations of this child could be of benefit if I were this child’s teacher because I can be able to get a fuller understanding of what the child’s learning and attention issues are and be able to help them in those areas. DW is doing much better; she’s interacting and socializing with her peers. DW has learned to share with the other children and made helper of the month. Overall I learned through this experience that children are a gift from god and they learn from…

The purpose of this paper was to gauge a child’s level of development in spelling based on observations and research through specific activities and literacy behaviors. Researchers have identified five stages that students move through on their way to becoming conventional spellers: emergent spelling, letter name-alphabetic spelling, within-word pattern spelling, syllables and affixes spelling, and derivational relations spelling (Bear, Invernizzi, Templeton, & Johnston, 2008). I chose to do my specific research teaching three children, but in two different groups due to their age difference. I focused on the relationship between spelling and meaning during the derivational relations stage for my two eighth grade students, while concentrating on spelling patterns and rules for my second grader. Overall, I truly enjoyed the children and activities but most importantly I learned that having fun is the easiest and quickest way to motivate young children.…

The child also has what is called the “Sensitive periods”. The sensitive periods are the blocks of time in a child’s life when he is absorbed with one characteristic of the environment. Children are able to acquire certain abilities with ease. During this phase, a function can be more perfectly established. The child here needs order in the environment and uses his five senses to learn. His movements are co-ordinated, there is a development of language, a fascination of minute details of objects and a time of social interest. This is a very important stage and if the child is not assisted, this natural opportunity for conquest would be lost, for this period is only seen in a child.…

The next task that the children undertook was maths. The task they had to undertake was to think and write down a number representing thousands and then the teacher went round the class and asked individual children for their answers it is clear from my observations that all the children were very keen to learn and all had something to say whether it be relevant to the task in hand. The final task that I was participating in was a language skill task where they had to pick out adjectives describing the owl from the reading task from earlier. This task was very useful as during my learning I have been looking at children and their grammar so I gave me a much better insight into children’s grammar skills at 8 and 9 years old and how they don’t use certain grammatical expressions for example they do not understand emphasis based around certain words and how to make them stand out when reading a sentence. This task really opened my eyes at how little children of 8 and 9 understand about linguistics and…

Two toddlers were observed when I was on practicum. “M” is a two years old girl who is originally from Peru, speaks Spanish. “S” is three years old girl who is from China, but speaks Korean. They had been speaking their mother tongues before I was on practicum. However, although they are weak in speaking English, it could be seen that their language development was improving during my practicum. In the meantime, their other developmental aspects were developing rapidly and closely related, especially in cognitive development. Based on my practicum experience, this report will be discussing the progression of these two children in different developmental domains. Meanwhile, developmental theories and teaching strategies will be discussed and…
