Jahi Harrison, who goes by his stage name “Lani Jae,” is among those select few. A senior born in Texas, and raised in Los Angeles, is a “triple threat” in the entertainment industry, which translates to an individual skilled in acting, dancing, and singing or rapping. With all these skills it’s no wonder Lani is such a powerful and inspiring performer. Additionally he hopes to use these skills for meaningful message to his peers.
Even with all the talent Lani Jae possesses, he had to start somewhere. As a young child Lani Jae said, “I always had a very active imagination. I acted like animals and people. Lani Jae recounted his hardest performance was playing Hamilton in Shakespeare’s “Hamilton.” “I wasn’t extremely comfortable with Shakespeare, and Hamilton had so many complexities with his personality. It was so different from me. I had to tap into a part of myself I didn’t know I had.”
Although Lani Jae had to overcome difficult productions, his talent really shown in productions like George C. Wolfe’s “Jelly’s Last Jam.” In this particular play, Lani Jae recalled it as an exciting play because, “[he] got to play ten-plus characters and it involved a lot of singing and dancing.”
Now that his senior year is coming to an end, Lani Jae hopes to use all his acting training and implement it into his musical performances. He hopes to incorporate all of his passions and create something magnificent and present it in the future where he hopes to move back to
