Laptops vs. Tablets

There is a debate as to whether or not tablets are better than laptops. This is something that really has interested me. In this essay we will compare the differences between three tablets and three laptops to see if we can determine whether tablets are better than laptops or vise versa. Even though tablets are more portable, laptops are better than tablets are because of their better capabilities and size of the laptop. In this paragraph/section of the essay we are going to focus on the portability of tablets vs. laptops. Because laptops have a physical keyboard, it makes it a lot easier to complete your work whether it be for school, work, or even just personal use. Having a physical keyboard allows the device to have more space on the screen so you can really see what you are needing to do, or are doing. Although laptops do have a physical keyboard, they are less portable than tablets are because of how big they are. Laptops tend vary in size anywhere from 5 pounds to 6 or 7 pounds. Tablets on the other hand are great portable devices because of how small they are. Yes, they lack the keyboard but it does cut out most of the weight. Tablets in most cases weigh less than 2 pounds, and some are even less than 1 pound. Tablets may be more portable that laptops are but because of how small they are, the capabilities lack those of the laptop. I believe that because laptops are not as portable as tablets are, people usually tend to sit down and fully concentrate on their work rather than being able to just grab the tablet and doing it on the go. So portability would have to go the tablets, due to their sleek and small design. You can just throw your tablet in your bag or even just hold on to without having your arm get tired. Not only are tablets small and sleek and portable, but also they are also great for kids that are stuck in the car on a long car ride. All you have to do is just turn on Netflix, or

After reading those articles, through my experiences in college, I was able to vividly retrospect my behaviors and results from using or not using technology. When I first joined college, my friends and I had new laptops carrying around to school taking note with them. Due to ban laptop policy in high school, I was so pleased that I got to look at my computer screen and write down what professor said. Sometimes, I stray out from the lecture and spent time doing other unnecessary activity, but I did not think that it was because of my laptop. Even if I don’t have my laptop around me, sometimes I zone out thinking about something else. I believe that regardless of using technology devices, it is my own or students’ responsibility to manage and pay attention in any…

Keywords: Tablet PC, Elementary Education, HumanComputer Interface, Media in Education Introduction The continuous development of computer technology and software provides an opportunity for the efficient transfer of data, course notes and images from paper to an electronic environment. As a result of this development, people often prefer to access information on computers because of the accessibility of the information, the ability to change text to the desired size, ease of archiving and organization, the avoidance of paper costs and reduction of paper use, and environmental benefits (Dyson & Haselgrove, 2001; Garland & Noyes, 2004; Rose, 2011; Spencer, 2006). In addition to the widespread use of the internet for obtaining information, university libraries are moving to the use of ebooks and emagazines. Increased email traffic, the availability of…

Typically laptops come with more memory (4-8GB) than tablets. Tablets typically come with an average of 1GB of RAM. If the purchase is for memory purposes then the laptop would be a better option. However, the tablet can have increased memory it just comes at a steeper price ($2000) than the laptop. The battery life of the device is important depending on how much the device will be used. The average battery life for a laptop is about six hours. Let’s keep in perspective it takes more “juice” to run a laptop than a small tablet which has an average battery life of ten hours. The main focus for a purchase would be price, memory, and battery life. Laptops, like desktop PCs before them, have a built-in benefit over tablets, and that benefit is power. As a rule, laptops have more powerful processing hardware, allowing for a wider range of uses, faster performance and better multitasking. Laptops can easily handle common tablet uses—like Web browsing and media streaming—and then go significantly further, with uses ranging from simple data entry to complex tasks like photo and video editing.…

During the 21st century, humans have developed the scientific technologies more rapidly than ever before. And the way of their lives is also changing according to the change of new technologies. Nowadays, we can easily see the people who are holding tablets with their hands around our place. A tablet is simply a mobile computer that is small, portable, and easy to use with just two fingers. Since it has been recognized for its usefulness and utility, many students study and do their homework with tablets. As tablets have become more prevalent, a new debate has formed over whether schools should replace print textbooks by tablets. In fact, many schools and states have begun transitioning from the paper textbooks to digital learning environments, “California launched a free digital textbooks initiative in 2009, and West Virginia replaced social studies print textbook purchases with digital textbooks” (FCC). However, there are some people who disagree with the idea of using tablets in school. The opponent of tablets’ argument is that tablets can have a bad influence on student’s education in a way that it can distract student’s attention and contribute to an eye strain. I would argue that the positive aspects of using tablets in school outweigh the negative.…
