The last supper was created to show Jesus’s last meal before he was crucified and tortured. It also shows the moment right before his friend was about to betray him. There was tension in the room and it was an action packed scene and Leonardo tried to capture the best part. He tried to make the person looking at the painting to see more just like an author would do to a book.…
During his time painting the Virgin of the Rocks Leonardo Da Vinci utilized light and shadow to achieve depth and authenticity in the scenery behind the Virgin Mary and baby Jesus. Also, in the way Leonardo Da Vinci chose to paint the subjects in the Virgin of the Rocks shows an authenticity in the artwork giving the piece a sense of realness, or truthfulness. On the other hand, though, The Last Supper is an exceptional display of detail and expression. The Last Supper was a painting of Jesus Christ and his twelve disciples engaging in the last meal Jesus Christ would partake in before he was offered up as a ransom on the torture stake. This painting is an extremely religious painting that Leonardo Da Vinci was commissioned to paint. The Virgin of the Rocks is also a religious…
Tintoretto painted the Last Supper several times in his life. This version can be described as the fest of the poors, in which the figure of Christ mingles with the crowds of apostles. However, a supernatural scene with winged figures comes into…
Ideas on the same topic always seem to differ from person to person. This holds true to the ideas of Machiavelli and Castiglione. The Prince, written by Machiavelli, and The Courtier, written by Castiglione, are both somewhat how-to guides for nobility, royalty, and princes. However, there are many distinct differences among the ideas of Castiglione and Machiavelli. Castiglione's philosophy leads down the path of a well-rounded person; a more peaceful manner. Machiavelli's philosophy is more straightforward and violent, where you should do anything and everything you have to do in order to achieve your goal. Both books and figures were of great importance to society.…

During the Italian Renaissance, paintings became more realistic. Many artists studied anatomy. The major themes of paintings during this time were religion and mythology. A lot of paintings depicted scenes from the Bible. A new concept that developed during this time in Italy was linear perspective. This helped the artists to realistically show space. Oil paint was also introduced during this time. An example of an Italian Renaissance painting is “The Last Supper” by Leonardo da Vinci. True to the Renaissance, this painting was of a religious scene and featured realistic figures. Like in many of his paintings, da Vinci carefully rendered the lighting to create the atmosphere. In the front of the painting, where the disciples are seated around Jesus, there is more light. The rest of the room is dimmer and more shadowy.…
The main women in both paintings are in blue, the focal point in both paintings is drawing you to the center of the painting and bringing your eyes outward to view the rest. Great detail is given to each of the painting figures; you can notice the expression on the faces of those involved. In both works you can see the flow of movement, as if you can imagine where each hand will fall. Both paintings are two dimensional and done with oil paints. Both paintings are very northern Renaissance based, with the same characters in each picture, and the same clothing. In both paintings there is so much detail in the clothes and faces, it is almost life like, and everything flows very well. The figures in both paintings are centered in one small space, in “The Alba Madonna” the figures are centered and your eyes will go outward to the landscape and the details surrounding them and in “Deposition”, the focus is centered on Jesus and will go outward to catch the expressions of those around him, also both paintings are centered and in a pyramid like shape. In both paintings, even though it is at different time periods or ages in Jesus Christ’s life, the painting are depicting Jesus in Mary’s lap as in “The Alba Madonna”, and in “Deposition” being brought down from the cross to be place again…
The transformation between Othello, a 16th century Shakespearean tragedy and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, a 1960’s Romantic Comedy, can be compared by addressing themes that are present in each text. The theme of race can be used to compare the different attitudes of each context, surrounding the significant black characters of Othello in Othello and John in Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, and there interaction with white females that belong to an upper middle class. The theme of interracial marriages can be used to compare the different values and attitudes of each context, towards a black & white marriage. This applies to both Othello & Desdemona and John & Joanna. By exploring the different contexts, ideas and techniques incorporated into each text, we can apprehend the different messages that each composer has attempted to convey to their audience.…

El Greco's "Feast in the House of Simon" creates a visual story of the last supper. It has similar and completely different attributes of a painting I'm more familiar with, Da Vinci's "Last Supper." The reason for thinking this is because of the what is taking place in the scene and for the story I recall learning as a child. The similarities I notice first is seeing Jesus as an important main focal point being placed in the center. As I look farther into El Greco's painting I notice how different it is.…
In this essay you will be comparing and contrasting two different types of paintings. The same subject matter but different ideas of the same subject. I will be writing about The Last Supper, which was painted by Giampietrino, after Leonardo da Vinci. He used oil on canvas while painting the piece of art. The year that Giampietrino painted this picture was in 1520. Another work of art that I will be writing about will be The Last supper by Francesco Fontebasso. He painted this picture in 1762 using oil on canvas. As you can see from both types of arts, that they were both painted on oil on canvas and both have the same subject matter which is the last supper that Jesus Christ had. To both of these painting’s in person, you can go to the Royal academy of Arts in London to see the Giampietrino piece and Fontebasso’s piece is found in Museum Fund of the State Hermitage in St Petersburg.…
