Healthy lifestyles, stereotypes, and culture all play an important factor in longevity. In human development the last stages have to do with late adulthood and the end of life. Research have provided statistical data which shows that there are certain activities, foods, exercise and other options to expand life. Other than physical factors there is emotional factors involved that can affect longevity. One of the most common, and easiest, way to prolong life is to live a healthy eating style with the implementation of physical activity. Choosing healthy foods may improve the quality of life. Foods have also been linked to altering moods, such as sugary foods which are quickly absorbed into the bloodstream causing a sugar rush or a ‘high’ to the person, when the sugar wears off it leaves the person leaving weak or tired. Having a good mental health is important in living longer, the conjunction of both eating healthy and exercising produce a healthy body. Society plays a role in how well a humans late adulthood plays out, ageism is a problem in society. Ageism is the stereotyping and discrimination against a person because of their age(Berger 2008). Ageism however can be seen in a positive way, as if ageism represents a persons knowledge, wisdom, and the appreciation on life and their perspective on life. Although their can be a positive side to ageism, society tends to look down at the elder. Ageism affects peoples self esteem, and the way they behave. Elders may feel like they are dependent and are not worthy of being members of society. The ancient Egyptians believe that when one dies it was the start of a journey to the world of the dead, somewhat like how Christians believe a persons soul will travel to heaven after one has died. Buddhist say farewell to their loved one, and hope they reincarnate in something else’s body, once reincarnated into something else all the past life events of the deceased are forgotten. In most Hispanic cultures, death is something that is taught to embrace, a wake is a very social event where family comes together to relive past times, after the funeral a small gathering is held where they serve food and beverages to those who attended.
