December 10, 2015 Ambition Has anyone ever asked ,”What’s your aspiration in life?” or “ What are your future goals?”
What about your determination and hardwork? When I hear the word ambition, I automatically think of power and independence for an individual. According to the dictionary the meaning is, “a strong desire to do or achieve something.” Based on the definition, we can imply that being ambitious is to be successful by creating goals for oneself. The latin-french origin word “ ambire” means “to go around” which relates to making goals in life for the future. Ambition is an important trait to have because it can help others contribute to become a successful individual in life. There are two main characteristics that help develop ambition such as persistence and determination. Being persistent dosen’t stop an individual from creating new ideas or become a failure, similar to the character Dr. George Gey in “Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks”. For example, an ant works for his colony throughout all the seasons. From birth, an ant’s strength builds everyday where it can lift almost fifty times their body weight similar to human strength. In addition, ambition is not only a trait for humans, but also a trait for nature. The poem, “ There are roughly zones” by Robert Frost, demonstrates how human and nature ambition is contrasted. Lines 8-11 state, “ What comes over a man, is it soul or mind; That to no limits and bounds he can stay confined? You would say his ambition was to extend the reach; Clear to the Arctic of every living kind.”( Frost) This quote represents the strength and power between humans and the body of nature to compare and contrast a new meaning of how ambition can affect
