Laundry Detergent Lab

The purpose of this entire experiment was to find a way to help slow or even stop the spreading of oil. The substances that were used were Dish soap, Laundry detergent, and Kosher salt. After test the three, laundry detergent seemed to stop the oil the most. The oil took over 5 minutes to get through the detergent. The oil took 8.8 seconds to get through the soap. The oil took 16.8 seconds to get through the salt. The first step is to gather all the supplies needed for the experiment. The next step is to make sure take there is protective gear to use because using oil can hazardous. Then, put the bins in a straight line and fill the bins with 1 ½ gallons of H2O. Then, measure the substances and pour the substances in the bins. Next, slightly
stir and make sure that there are no suds. Next, get a stopwatch or download one on a phone and get ready to pour the oil into the H2O, and pour it in and start stopwatch. Then, stop the stopwatch when the oil reaches the other side of the bin. Then, record time for each bin. Then, to get rid of the oil, give it to the oil recycle. Overall, the substance that canceled the oil spread the most was the Laundry detergent. It took over 5 minutes for the oil to get past the detergent. The others took less than 1 minute. The purpose of the entire experiment was to help oil find the right substance to keep oil from spreading into the ocean and polluting the sea.
