What is the author’s rationale for selecting this topic? Does he build a strong case? The authors concentrate on the effects that transformational leadership has on the relationships of diverse team members and the performance of the team. The authors demonstrate this premise by demonstrating numerous references to past and current studies, as well as this study. “Intellectually stimulating leaders encourage their teams to welcome and take advantage of diverse knowledge bases and perspectives (Bass & Riggio, 2006), even if the voiced views deviate from the general consensus.” The authors also demonstrated that age, gender, nationality, and education as factors contributing to team performance under the direction of a transformational leader.
Purpose of the study (Article 2) To determine the relationship between transformational leadership behavior and the performance of financial service teams from financial institutions (bank branches) from banks in the United States and Hong Kong. The authors determined that team values are an influencing factor, which has an effect on the team member’s response to the transformational leader, and in turn to the team’s performance.

Despite the frequency though and the impact of leadership transition within the organizations, very little focus has been given to new leaders undergoing the process of taking charge of a new team.     Abstract Although transformational leadership has been studied extensively, the magnitude of the relationship between transformational leadership and follower performance across criterion types and levels of analysis remains unclear. Based on 117 independent samples over 113 primary studies, the current metaanalytic study showed that transformational leadership was positively related to individual-level follower performance across criterion types, with a stronger relationship for contextual performance than for task performance across most study settings. In addition, transformational leadership was positively related to performance at the team and organization levels. Moreover, both meta-analytic regression and relative importance analyses consistently showed that transformational leadership had an augmentation effect over transactional leadership (contingent reward) in predicting individual-level contextual performance and team-level performance.
