“Leading by Virtues”

“A ruler who governs his state by virtue is like the north polar star, which remains in its place while all the other stars revolve around it.”

- Confucius, The Analects 2:1

The Confucius saying that is quoted above is very meaningful and it is very helpful to every government leaders especially in our country. Confucius was referring to the leaders during his times because of corruption they were unable to lead every person to the right path. Now, Corruption occurs all over the globe and in all historical eras. In the Philippines, this problem is not something unusual because it is one of the reasons that led the country to suffer from poverty. As long as people in the administration continue to cheat in the Philippine society, it will be difficult to eliminate corruption in the government because they are not affected by the feeling of shame among the Filipino people. How many of our government officials in our country make promises and not fulfilling it? Or rather doing the other way around? Our country is also great in terms of corruption because most of the government officials are corrupting the money of the people. Instead they should use these to improved infrastructures in our country such as government offices, hospitals and other structures that would help the society. For me if you are a virtuous, people will be attracted to you especially if you are a leader of the government, and you provides the needs and the help and information to the people, the people will learn to love the way your ruling and begin to follow your ways. The polar star is the one leading every sea traveler to a right path. A leader should be like this a model of the society and of the community. He must also learn to look the

In Confucius’s view, “If people be led by virtue, and uniformity sought to be given them by the rules of propriety, they will have a sense of shame, and moreover will become good.” Confucius intensified that a good minister should lead people with virtue and propriety and not with laws and regulations. Then people will have a sense of shame and turn to good people instead of trying to avoid the punishment and having no sense of shame. A good leader should employ ministers according to the rules of propriety then ministers serve the leader with faithfulness. Then Confucius said “There is a government, when the prince is prince, and the minister is minister; when the father is father and the son is son.” He implied that every minister in the government…

We all have the choice to lead or not. So the question becomes: Why does someone choose to lead? I believe the answer is, fundamentally, that they believe strongly enough in something that they want to take action and are willing to take on the responsibility of being a leader. Such is the case for me with regards to teaching. When I was young I simply wanted to be led. As I matured, however, opportunities to assume leadership roles presented themselves and, with support from my peers and mentors, I found myself taking them on and have grown to enjoy being a leader and helping those around me succeed.…

There is Abnegation, which values selflessness, Amity, which values peace, Erudite, which values knowledge, Candor, which values honesty, and Dauntless, which values bravery. Children are raised in their parents' faction, and once they turn sixteen, they have the option to choose for themselves which faction will be theirs for the rest of their lives, whether it's the one they grew up in or not.…

Using effective ethical leadership is vital in every career field, but it is especially significant when working in human services. I have been a volunteer for over five years, working with women who are attempting to make positive changes and get their lives back on track. Most of these women have just been released from some type of incarceration. Most have lost their families, their homes, their jobs, and their self-worth. Most of these women suffer from alcoholism and addiction to drugs. Many of these women come from homes where some type of substance abuse was prevalent. Many of these women have been abused either physically, emotionally, or both. I work as a bridge between probation and parole and the women I assist, and I try my best to fill this gap with encouraging solutions.…

This quotation explains how very few governments work at their core. However, it would only apply to an ideal government, where the fittest to rule actually do. Many governments do not follow any beliefs similar to this one, as corruption is prevalent is some while others are run by idiotic people who really are not “superior.” This quotation is extremely important because it states exactly how a government should work at its most basic…

The basis of servant leadership is instilling the organizations vision in your people and assisting them to succeed. Servant leaders are motivated to help others reach their goals. Servant leaders lead with compassion. They are not self centered or driven to move up the ladder. They believe their sole responsibility is to improve the organization by giving of themselves to the front line employees because they are the people who will make the company successful (Ken Blachard Companies, 2010) This giving includes time, energy, empowerment, backing decisions, encouragement, and guidance. Servant leaders are humble and are not worried about feeding their egos. They focus on listening to their employees and developing them. They believe their team is the reason for their success and the team is what makes the company succeed.…

Virtue ethics belongs to the branch of philosophy called ethics. Virtue ethics is also a sub branch of normative ethics and it contrasts with disteleology because normative ethics is more concerned about characteristics of a person rather than the moral duties and laws they must abide, so Natural Moral Law, Kantian ethics and Divine Command are usually dismissed by Virtue Ethics. This ethical theory also contrasts with consequentialism e.g. Utilitarianism which is more focused on results and outcomes. Virtue ethics was first introduces by Plato and was further developed by Aristotle.…
