CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
1.1 Introduction
Computerization in general brings lots of advantages to the company and to the nations as a whole, these includes efficiency, improved security, improved speed of accessing data and makes the job easier. The Human Resource (HR) department is one of the most important departments in National Pharmaceutical Company (NatPharm) and is the only one out of the six departments which is not computerized. The department has several cabinets for filing and locking important personal copies of information for all the workers, this is a costly problem on its own. Therefore the researcher is going to develop a computerized leave application system for the Human Resources Department to improve the department

Employees who want to go on leave are asked to fill the leave request form which would be approved by both the supervisor and the HR department. Leave balances are accumulated and subtracted manually using the bin card system. The problem is that at the end of every period these balances on the cards would not tally with those at the payroll, audit calculation and those known by individual employees. Most audit reports showed that some people had more days than actual and some were left in negative after these audit calculation. Disagreements usually arise between the employees and the HR department. It is assumed that the main cause of this problem is due to pressure of work, mix-up between other request forms and leave forms, error in calculations and some leave forms are lost before subtracted on the cards. There is no enough security in the department since only approved papers are filled in a secure cabinet. Therefore in conclusion the loss of revenue in the company due to accumulated leave balances which is an expense added to that of consumables (bond papers, files pens, …show more content…
1.6 System Objective
Heldman (2005) claims that objectives are measure the set for the project completion and include elements that help determine project success. Barnes et al (2003) says objectives are things the organisation wants to achieve. This means that objectives are deliverables in fulfilling the system specifications functionality. The objectives of the study are aimed at developing a system that
 Will create a centralised database for the HR departmental functions.
 Will facilitate, electronic application of leave days
 Will allow, electronic calculation and filing of leave days and balances.
 Will enable users to view and print their payslip electronically
 Will allow head of department to approve and deny leave applications for
