Abortion and the Ethics
Abortion is a subject that touches on various ethical, social, religious, and legal issues. Abortions is a very controversial issue. It is one of the most intensely debated ethical issues. Abortion is defined as: the deliberate termination of a pregnancy. Advocates really only have two sides to pick from “Pro-life” or “Pro-choice”.
Generally the debate on abortion is “pro-life” or “pro-choice”. Abortion advocates for “pro-life” have an argument on the ethical side of the debate being “life begins at time of conception”. While “pro-choice” advocates have the argument that “it is the woman’s choice to carry the fetus or not”.
Pro-life advocates think abortion is just like murder since life starts at conception. Pro-life advocates also believe adoption is a viable alternative to abortion. Considering 1.5 million families want to adopt. Also pro-life studies show that an abortion can result in medical complications later in life, the rick of ectopic pregnancies are higher, and the chances of miscarriages double. They also believe abortion should not be used as a form of contraception such as birth control, condoms, and abstinence.
Pro-choice advocates suggest every child should come into the world loved, wanted, and cared for. If a woman cannot provide these things she should be able to have an abortion if she feels the need to. Also they feel that the fetus is not yet a human being because it cannot survive outside the uterus on its own. Therefore abortion should not be considered murder.
