Marijuana is frowned upon as a controlled substance and therefore it is considered not safe but there is not been a proven test stating otherwise. Marijuana is classified as a control substance in which it deteriorate the brain cells and slows down one’s reflexes and memory ability, but it has been proven by many physicians that it very effective on patients with illness. Marijuana has proven medical benefits for cancer, AIDS, glaucoma and other patients.
Marijuana has medicinal value and could be a valuable asset to those who have undergone chemotherapy for cancer, or other patients with AIDS. This is true, however; the other dangerous chemicals associated with marijuana use have the possibility of creating more health problems such as lung cancer. The active part of marijuana that eases the pain of these patients that is known as tetra-hydro-canibol, or THC, is available in a pill form that does not contain the "more than 400 different chemicals found in tobacco smoke".2
The FDA has approved the drug Dronabinol, or Marinol, which is a synthetic form of THC, the principal psychoactive component of marijuana. This demonstrates that the federal government already believes that the main chemical component of marijuana is medically beneficial. From the sick person’s viewpoint, compared with comparable pharmacological medicines, marijuana is often a clear and obvious choice in terms of both toxicity and effectiveness.
