When you watch TV, anytime that a drug is mentioned, there are a few benefits to it yet a long list of side effects. Usually, one drug will cause a separate issue. Marijuana is plant based and it is the most natural drug. I believe the legalization of medical marijuana is imperative for those who suffer of chronic, acute pain. Look at the issue with opiates. Business Insider stated that people who abuse opiates, a legal pain killer, “are more susceptible to heroin abuse since they work similarly in the brain”. A new CDC report found that people who abused opiate painkillers were 40 times as likely to abuse heroin since it works similarly in the brain. There have been more overdoses on opiates than heroin. I understand the use for medicinal purposes but allowing it as recreational concerns me. Marijuana is known as a gateway drug. Those who do not know how to control it will develop an addiction. In my opinion when it’s being used for the effect, the feeling, there is the potential of it being abused. It can be as bad as being addicted to alcohol. There are more risks with the younger generation, it being readily available. So, if the individual has an addictive personality, it can make their life unmanageable and their chances of exceeding will be minimized. I know it’s hypocritical to agree to the use of marijuana but if used as medicine it will treat many illnesses that require prescribed drugs with less side
