Unit 2 Voices of War
Author’s Purpose and “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere”
(100 points)
Frequently, reported versions of events of war differ from those of historians, which also differ from those of the poet or the artist. In this lesson, you will compare and contrast several historical and artistic renderings of Paul Revere and his midnight ride. You will then analyze how the style, tone, and diction of each text advance the author’s purpose, perspective or stance.
Part 1: View the following works of art and actual historical pictures of Paul Revere. Then answer the questions that follow.

1. What are the major differences between the artist’s rendering of Paul Revere and the actual pictures of him?
The artists rendition portays as of stereotypical hero. not like a super hero but, well built, tall, athletic. The rendition has a good looking muscular thin man galloping on a horse yelling out warnings, another has him on a horse rounding up the soldiers all heroic like, but Paul revere is just a fat old dude so..

2. Propose a hypothesis about why there might be such a big difference between art and reality?
This way history didn't just think of and a small man, They wanted him to be thought of as a hero!

4.
3. What image of Paul Revere are the artists emphasizing? Give at least 2 pieces of textual evidence (specific references to elements in the artwork) to support your response.
They are purely emphasizing the horse, and the deed. He rode a horse, and yelled warnings. Neither painting emphasized what he actually looked like or who he actually was.
