Lennie's Death In Of Mice And Men

At the end of the novel, Slim tries to comfort George about Lennie’s death by saying : “You hadda, George. I swear you hadda.” George had to kill Lennie . Lennie was a danger to other people and animals, If Curley was going to kill him he would’ve made him suffer, and George felt stuck. Throughout the story Lennie shows a continuous pattern of violence. first in Weed when he wanted to feel the ladies dress, then he killed another mouse (which he has done multiple times throughout his childhood.) , he broke Curleys hand , he killed the puppy , and then he killed Curleys wife. It shows that Lennie just doesn’t know his strength , like he says on page 9 “ I wasn’t doin’ nothing bad with it ,George. Jus’ strokin’ it.” when he accidentally killed the mouse .
Curley was going to make him suffer like he said on page 96 “I’ll shoot the big son-of-a-bitch myself. I’ll shoot ‘im in the guts.” Curley said something related to how he’d kill Lennie multiple times around the end of the story. George also thought back to how Candy felt about a stranger killing his dog and how’d he rather it be him because he knew him his whole life. Lastly George knew if Curley didn’t get to him that when the police did they’d either kill Lennie or institutionalize him.
