Leonard Dicaprio: A Brief Film Analysis
The big day is just around the corner - and while the Academy Awards are supposed to feel more like the Super Bowl of acting than the Pro Bowl, this year feels somewhat strained. It must be my imagination, right?

Chris Rock will perform his acting duties, though it remains to be seen whether or not he'll poke fun at those that opted not to attend the party. And, while some notable faces will be absent, like Will Smith (who wasn't nominated for his leading role in Concussion), you had best believe Leonard DiCaprio will be in the house - possibly wearing his brown pants.

The Revenant (one of the favorites to win Best Picture) is a complete work of art and has been the talk of the Oscar season, but no one will be feeling more pressure to bring home the gold than Leo. He's come painfully close in the past, yet snubbed on every occasion - but his role in Alejandro González Iñárritu's masterpiece is by far the best. Still, there are no guarantees in life - other than death and taxes, I hear.

As far as the rest of the categories are concerned, it's unlikely there will be anything close to a massive upset (you know, unless Leo loses) - with films like Mad Max: Fury Road primed to clean-up in the effects and design categories, while The Revenant & Spotlight should also snag a few here and there.

Also, look for 2015's biggest blockbusters, including Star Wars: The Force Awakens & Furious 7 to be ignored, per usual - comparable to how Jurassic World & The Avengers: Age of Ultron weren't even given a sympathy nod, despite being among the year's top earners.

Yes, perhaps this is the year that the ways of the old die - only to usher in a newer, fairer competition. But - then again, don't hold your breath.

Bigelow used things such as moving camera shots, camera angles, lighting, and the use of long shots to create a realistic feel throughout the movie.…

The film opens with a close up shot of Alex dressed in white with gray suspenders showcasing his false eyelashes on his right eye and with the brim of his pork pie hat tilted slightly downward. His ominous blue eyes peering right through you as if you did not even exist. Slowly the camera pulls back as Alex takes a sip of drug laced milk revealing the type of company he keeps. His “droogs” as Alex called them were seated next to him on a bench in the Korova Milk Bar. The Korova Milk Bar was decorated with nude figures of women posed as if they had fallen backwards and they attempted to catch themselves by putting their arms behind them. The flats of their stomachs doubled as a table where glasses of milk could be placed. Other nude statues…

In The Breakfast Club, there is an overwhelming idea of the future. The students only think about one week in advance before their Saturday detention. They never thought about what their actions could do to their future. For example, Brian did not seem to grasp that because he was so ready to kill himself over one failed assignment. He was thinking in the now and not in the future. A noticeable moral of this film is: Parents should actually raise their children. In this film, all of the parents have minimal screentime, but it is still evident that they totally suck. Claire’s parents use her as a tool of revenge against one another, and her parents fail to see the effect it has on her. Andrew’s parents push him too hard, and as a result he is…

When conducting an interview for the American Film Institute, actor Jeff Bridges, discussing 1941's Citizen Kane, said its director was "twenty-five years old, and he didn't know what he couldn't do...and Greg Toland gave him all the confidence in the world (2011, 0:28 sec.). Bridges was of course talking about the late, great Orson Welles. But who was Greg Toland? Well known in Hollywood at the time, Toland was a longtime cinematographer who had not only won an Academy Award for 1939's Wuthering Heights, but more importantly, had a unique unorthodox style and "was a devoted rebel against the conventions and rituals of big studio filmmaking" (Carringer, 1982, pp. 652-653). Needless to say, when the rookie filmmaker and veteran cameraman got together, movie magic was in the air. Indeed, their collaboration would result in a cinematic spectacle…

When watching Hallmark network films, it is quite common to see certain actors featured regularly, and sometimes we don't even think about learning their names or looking up their other works, especially if they are in supporting roles. However, I have discovered that if I delve a little bit deeper, I often find that I come across incredible talent, and I understand why Hallmark chooses to highlight these gifted actors again and again.
