On September, 22nd, 1995 a legend was born. Her name was Alexis Elizabeth Taparrotta, and she was one of those lucky people who is born kicking but doesn’t stop. Alexis started playing soccer at the age of three. Her parents signed her up at such a young age so she would always have a lead on other potential legends. Alexis had a weird obsession with soccer. Every single thing she owned either had something to do with soccer or had a soccer ball on it. She had a soccer bed set, books, balls that went on the ceiling that would glow in the dark when the lights were off, posters, clothes, every possible jersey worn by a soccer player. She also had every single world cup soccer ball in the…
Saint José Ramón Agustín Pro Juárez, also known as Saint Miguel Pro, was born on January 13, 1891, in Guadalupe, Mexico. He was one of eleven children, the oldest boy. Sadly, four of his siblings died as babies or young children. From an early age, he was heartily spiritual, as well as mischievous; he constantly entertained his family with his humor and practical jokes. St. Miguel was a dauntless child and sometimes took his pranks and fun too far, putting him in several near-death mishaps. The third oldest in his family, St. Miguel was unquestionably very close with his older sister. After she entered a convent at age 20, he started to recognize his own calling to the priesthood. Though his father wanted him to continue with the family business, Miguel lived for God and entered the Jesuit novitiate in El Llano, Michoacán in 1911. He had been studying with the Jesuit priests for only a year when a religious revolution broke out in Mexico and by 1914, the Jesuits were forced to flee the country.…

A man of the name Reinaldo Silvestre out of Miami Beach was not licensed to practice medicine, and was posing as a plastic surgeon that had minimal medical training. In 1999, Silvestre, 64 was accused of giving his patients animal tranquilizers and operated with a spatula. One of his patients was Alexander Baez a former Mr. Mexico that was guaranteed by his acting physician that he would undergo cosmetic surgery for a more muscular chest and when he awoke from the surgery he had had female breast implants. In 1999, several patients accused Reinaldo Silvestre, 64, of severely bungling cosmetic surgeries. Silvestre performed other malpractice surgeries on others in South Beach and had a warrant for his arrest, so he fled to Belize and was arrested…
On the other hand the Roman system of Alimenta shares a great deal of similarities with modern welfare as it is currently known, the Roman Empire being the birth place of many currently utilized government systems. Originally Alimenta actually began under the reign of the first Roman emperor known as Augustus, at this time it was referred to as Cura Annonae which stood for "care for the grain supply", as the name would imply this particular system under Augustus dealt more with grain than financial status. The Cura Annonae focused upon attempting to provide rations of grain to citizens of the Roman Empire who could not themselves afford to purchase food for themselves or their families, this is the first recorded instance in history of a system…
I went from being a shop owner to being a slave in the Roman the town I lived in. Becoming a slave changed how I viewed life. When I was a shop owner, I had a feeling of accomplishment, but now, I cry myself to sleep as I was constantly in pain. I usually was a slave for a Roman shop owner carrying out the everyday business transactions, but after the Roman city of Rome burned down, I was put in a group of other slaves whose sole purpose was to be unskilled labor for the construction of Domus Aurea or “The Golden House," (Anderson 1997 52) for the Roman emperor Nero Claudius Caesar Drusus Germanicus (Adkins 1994 21) who we normally refer to as “Nero.” Once I was put into this group of slaves, I experienced many beatings and had to do a lot of grueling work (Anderson 1997 124). My main job was to assist another slave who was a bricklayer. I had to haul the bricks up the Palatine hill along with having to carry the cement and bricks up the shaky ladder to another slave who was a bricklayer.…
Jewelry is not only considered a status symbol, but a reflection of someone’s taste. A woman’s craze for jewelry is a universally known fact. Women look more beautiful, confident, and graceful when wearing jewelry. In most cases, it enhances the beauty of an outfit and overall personality. Whether it’s a toned down, simplistic style, or an extravagant and vibrant look, jewelry can be a woman’s way of expressing herself without saying a word.…
Most of us have heard of Pierre Peladeau, a man who has built a multi-billion dollar company from a $1,500 loan. There is no doubt that he has achieved a lot during his life time and there is no doubt that a lot of it was good. For instance, he was known for donating millions to charities and even visiting dying strangers in Montreal hospitals to bolster their spirits. However, I believe that the bad things he did overshadow the good. He was involved in several controversies, the most famous being the anti-Semitic remarks made against the Jewish community. There were also some sexist comments about business women. In the following I will explain why, in my opinion, Pierre Peladeau is not a good role-model for Business students.…
A man worthy of such an award, who put his life at risk to save many. Peter in my opinion planned the escape of the Rosen family. From the very start when Peter showed up in the middle of the night, I believe he was creating his plan and working with the Resistance. Plus, he came up with a plan to stop the dogs from tracking human scent. His story is truly heartbreaking, but he died a hero…
Alcoholism claims three hundred lives per day in the United States alone. Finding a cure could save more than one-hundred thousand people per year Alcoholism is a broad term for problems with alcohol and is generally used to mean compulsive and uncontrolled consumption of alcoholic beverages, usually to the detriment of the drinker’s health, personal relationships, and social standing. Alcoholism is medically considered a disease, specifically a neurological disorder, sometimes medically called “alcohol abuse” or “alcohol dependence.” To date, there are some standardized treatments that work for alcoholics, but not for others, and a cure is not medically recognized (Ameisen, 2009). Many cures have been proposed over the years; this research centers on a brilliant cardiologist, Dr. Oliver Ameisen, who developed a profound addiction to alcohol, and will show controlled studies using Baclofen to reduce cravings for alcohol. Dr. Ameisen, an alcoholic himself, did the only thing that he could; he took his treatment into his own hands.…
Raoul grew up as a young man with his single mother who was a widow, they lived together with Raoul´s little sister on a single spot in the forest at Lidingö. It was three months before he was born, his father had passed away. When Raoul was a little child he often played by himself, he did not have any friends and his time in school was not so god either. Raoul was none of the brave guys, but it doesn’t means that you can´t be it when you grew up. Raoul had a grandfather, Gustav Wallenberg who was the Swedish ambassador in Tokyo at this time, and he hoped it would be something good about Raoul and that he would become an international person. He wanted that Raoul would learn many languages and spend lots of time in other countries in the summer. He traveled to many places around the country and meet many people. He was no longer the anxious guy who did not dare so much, when he was in high school he started to go on summer courses in France. Then began Raoul changing. He spent many weeks in France to learn French, where he lived with another family where there were other young people from other different countries. At this point in France Raoul met a Hungarian boy named Lasslo Petú and he was pretty ostracized from those other guys in the group. Lasslo was often bullied out of…
Jeannette was cooking her own hotdogs at the age of three. While cooking hotdogs for herself, her pink dress catches on fire and is hospitalized for six weeks. Jeannette only being three years old at the time of the accident does not let it rule her life. After being smuggled out of the hospital by her father, she returns to playing with fire. Jeannette was taught to take care of herself at a very young age. She was taught how to cook for herself and to shoot a gun by herself at a very young age. Her parents believed that if you don’t beck-and-call on their child’s every whine or cry, it will teach them to grow up to be tough. This is the problem I find most interesting when looking at Jeannette’s childhood.…
Jean Valjean, a criminal, that will always be known as a criminal. Although he shouldn’t deserve that name for himself because in reality he was just a man who wasn’t self-centered. Jean Valjean, after being let out of prison, though he was free but in reality he just manages to get back into a world filled of hate for convicts. Even after he decided to through away that passport was he still feeling the obligation to give away? Was Valjean really free after encountering the Bishop and promising to become an honest man?…
For many years ligers were seen as mythical creatures. There has been a huge debate since they came into the limelight; in the popular 2004 cult movie Napoleon Dynamite when Napoleon described them pretty much as his favorite animal. That prompted the questions that is still being asked today, “Are they real?”, and “What are they really like?” The answer to the first question is, yes, they are very real. Though, the first question is still part of the huge debate; the second question presents most controversy. The second question is so controversial because there is so much uncertainty about them. That in turns questions the future these animals have. Everybody should become more aware of the Liger’s uncertain future by first learning…
