Let's give Chivalry another Chance

To say that chivalry is dead may be an exaggeration, but to say that it is dying is not an understatement. As us women grow up we always catch ourselves day dreaming about our perfect “knight in shinning armour”. The Disney romance movies we grow up watching when we are kids tend to make us wonder what we really want in a relationship, and what we would appreciate in a relationship. Realistically, everyone wants to grow up and grow old with frequent examples of chivalrous behaviour surrounding them. However, as time goes on, each generation noticeably grows more and more boorish. I will always agree and support that chivalry is a necessary part of gender relation. Chivalry is certainly not what it used to be, and we all can say that we have a different perspective around the subject. We should “give chivalry another chance”, another shot of happiness. Chivalrous behaviour is something women look forward to, and we would prefer to see a side of chivalry everyday. Unlike these feminist in the article, I don't think chivalry is what they refer to as “sexiest”. Also, I don't think it gives an idea that men are strong, and that women are weak. Chivalry is a kind word to a stranger, and a smile for those in need. This is why it's ideal and extremely important to keep it alive and running so it can continue into future generations.

We have all seen old films or heard those over told stories from back in our grandparent's day and age about men opening a car door for his mistress, offering to buy dinner for his woman, or even offering his coat to her while she's cold. These actions are quite unheard of nowadays. But, to see feminist try and take the last bit of chivalry behaviour from right under us is very concerning and mind blowing. If anything these feminist would want respect from men rather than going without any. In my eyes it should be about treating people with respect, and you will get equally amounts out of it in return. In the article “Let's give Chivalry another chance” it begins to show the negative view on Chivalry. It's hard to see and hard for us to comprehend that there are actually such things as negative downsides to Chivalry. It states a statistic view in the article “After the women's liberation movement of the 1960s, which insisted on the equal treatment of women in all domains of life, feminists dismissed chivalry as sexist. They still do. A new study, published in the feminist journal Psychology of Women Quarterly, questions the entire enterprise of male chivalry, which, in an Orwellian flourish, it calls "benevolent sexism." Which basically feminist are saying that men are overpowering women through the usage of chivalry. In a way these feminist have an impact on keeping chivalry alive by actually trying to kill it all together; so they can feel equal and not overpowered. They feel as if chivalry is perpetuated as a gender stereotype. Women are confused about their own roles and interpretate that it's okay not to show any chivalry. In our minds we are asking “if there is zero chivalry, wouldn't there be unnecessary violence?”. Chivalry is now such a rare thing to see that every gesture, even ones that should be common courtesy come across as astounding. As we turn on our televisions we may see a rap video... we see men taking an advantage of the woman, them feeling over confident that they will get as many girls as they desire, and we also see the women opening doors and champagne for the men since they are “fabulous”, Disgusting, right?!. It becomes more and more difficult for women to find a man that will treat them with the respect they deserve since the population of gentlemen left in this world is continually declining. With so much unnecessary boorishness and arrogance among today’s men, it becomes discouraging both for the women who expect some proper treatment and the true men out there who have no problem with making appropriate gestures. Women should feel important and that's a big role now a days that men have to take on. “gentlemanly behavior makes people happy."

While one woman may see it every day, another may not see any sort of decency from men. From personal experience, I was lucky enough to find examples of chivalry in my everyday life. However, I also have been witness of quite the opposite. If one really takes the time out of their day to observe the average treatment of females by males, it is very likely that the gentlemen will be heavily outnumbered by the unappreciative, disrespectful, and rude men. Overall, despite the fact that I happen to be lucky enough to see chivalrous behaviour more often than the average person, it is most certainly dying. No longer do we see the majority of the male population as a group of gentlemen. Now it is more accurately described as a group of disrespectful boys surrounding a handful of real gentlemen.
