Let's Begin Monologue
Back in my hometown there used to be a myth that I loved based on why our sun rises and sets everyday and I’d love to share it with you ‘Let’s Begin’. A long long long time ago there once was a young boy who had hated to be in the shadows. He had feared that there was a monster lurking beneath the shadows to steal away all of the unsuspecting children. Due to this fear he befriended the ever so loving sun that protected all of the young children of the land. Laughing and talking with the sun he and she soon became best friends. While telling a story of how he had once found a snail under his bed and kept it as a pet, the sun had a pained look upon her face, “What is wrong sun” the little boy inquired. “Tis nothing but a foul pain in my heart child” she …show more content…

The sun was quite pleased with this idea but was concerned for the child, “but what of you and your safety”. The boy had also thought of this part. He had decided to take many things that could be used to ward off the monster, things made of light would be used to weaken and defeat the monster. So while the sun worked on how she would she herself off for a while the boy tried to find different things that glowed. The time had come for the sun to dim herself for the protection of all children around her and the boy surrounded himself in touches and fire. As the sun slowly went out the darkness crept over the horizon and the monster all children fear came closer and closer. When the sun had finally dimmed enough for the monster to stay on the outskirts of his circle of fire, he could see its ravenous eyes and its long claws. “Today is the last day you will ever take another child” the boy sang loudly with great

The artist Richard Serra, in 1981, installed his sculpture, Tilted Arc, in the Federal Plaza in New York City. Even though the piece had been commissioned by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), the Arts-In-Architecture program, it immediately caused controversy. In 1963, the GSA established the Arts-In Architecture program to make ½ of 1% of a federal building’s cost to be spent on public art. The point of this program was to enhance public spaces and to expand the public’s awareness of contemporary art by installing artworks created by contemporary U.S. artists.…

Frank O’Hara’s poem “A True Account of Talking to the Sun at Fire Island” is a fun account of the speaker’s encounter with the actual sun. This poem is not only fun, but a great comic pat on the back for both the speaker and even the reader. It’s nice to think that the Sun took time out of its busy schedule of waking up the earth’s inhabitants to give the speaker some words of encouragement and to let him know that his work is appreciated. The opening line, “The sun woke me up this morning loud / and clear,” (1) which was amusing because the sun usually signals the beginning of the day already, but this sun took it a step further and vocally woke the speaker. However the speaker reacted much more calmly that I would have. The sun would have been met with maniacal screams and running away faster than humanly possible.…
