Case Questions for Discussion 1. Define Lawn Care's current strategic mission, strategy, competitive priorities, value chain, and how it wins customers. What are the order qualifiers and winners? Draw the major stages in its value chain without an application service.
The Lawn Care Company defines its business strategy as the "highest quality grass seed and fertilizer in the world" while the competitor defines their business strategy as "beautiful lawns with no hassles." Therefore, the Lawn Care Co. focuses on competitive priorities such as high product quality, delivery to retail store or golf course loading dock, and price. Product quality is the #1 competitive priority for the Lawn Care Co with price/cost #5. The competitor focuses on (1) high product quality, (2) no hassle application to the customer's lawn, (3) higher margins on the application service than the physical goods, (4) customized 6 OM2 C4 applications as needed, (5) service encounter excellence, and (6) building a strong relationship with customers. Service quality is the #1 competitive priority for the competitor. 2. What problems, if any, do you see with Lawn Care's current strategy, vision, customer benefit package and value chain design, and Pre-and postservices?
Customers and Third Party Applicators Apply to Lawns OM2 C4 There will always be a market for self-service application for golf courses, parks, and residential lawns (like Scotts 1-2-3-4 self-service Four Step program sold at retail stores) but as the U.S. standard of living and disposable income increases, the market for lawn care application services will grow. The Lawn Care Co. is missing a major market opportunity but has time to catch up. Their current vision of the business focuses on perfect physical goods but that is not enough in today's competitive markets! Services need to be bundled with the goods to help gain competitive advantage in this market. The strategy determines everything else! 3. Redo questions (1)

Green and Clean inc. is a lawn care corporation headquartered at 11 Seventh Street, Pelham, NY 10803 in a 100 square foot office. We offer a series of lawn development and upkeep programs devoting attentions to every aspect of turf grass culture. These include lawn maintenance, landscaping, composting, lawn aeration, irrigation services, water saving programs, spot re-seeding, total lawn renovation, soil testing, disease control, de-thatching, grub control, and lime application. All our products and services are positioned at the high end of the market in terms quality, and the mid to small scale end in terms of size and price. What sets us apart from other businesses is we are 100% customer service oriented. Green and Clean inc. will provide residential lawn care and maintenance services which include lawn cutting, edging and trimming. Optional services will be available upon customers' requests. The service is typically offered once a week, but we can create a custom schedule for clients if they have beginning of the season projects, or if the weather alters their lawn care needs. Disease control as well as grub control also forms a part of our primary services offered. Different plans are available for different categories of customers. Some homeowners may wish to use fertilizer, but no herbicides or insecticides applied to their lawns. Some like to apply fertilizer themselves, but would rather have a lawn care service apply the appropriate controls for weed, insect, or disease problems. Therefore we offer flexibility in our servicing, thus catering to all service requirements of the customer. We also provide corrective applications as a free service if the customer is not satisfied. Green and Clean inc. is a residential lawn care service targeting rural as well as urban middle-class homes with small to mid size yards, too small for the classic landscaping truck with multiple workers. We will target the New Rochelle area, specifically Southern New Rochelle,…
