Abstract
World War I has been the first global war in the world lasted from 1914 to 1918. It is one of the great watersheds of the 20th century geopolitical history. Due to new military technologies, the unprecedented levels of carnage and destruction are caused and more than 16 million people including military personnel and civilians died. This paper will explore about the World War I with level of analysis – individual, state and international level. The individual level of analysis lies the cause of events in individual leaders within a particular country in the war. The state level of analysis lies causes in the characteristics of the domestic system of the specific states in the war. It began as a local war between Serbia and Austria-Hungary in 1914 and later grew into a war involving 32 countries. It has been one of the great watersheds of the geopolitical history of the 20th century. Over 70 million military personnel were mobilized in this war which was one of the largest wars in world history. More than 9 million military personnel and 7 million civilians and victims of genocides died as a result of the war. Therefore, it was one of the deadliest conflicts in world history. The war caused major political change which included revolutions in many nations involved. Unresolved rivalries at the end of the war contributed to the beginning of the Second World War after next 21 years. The First World War involved the great powers at that time, in two opposing alliances: the Allied Powers and the Central Powers. The former were composed of Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Ireland, Japan and the latter were composed of the United States of Germany, Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire and
