Philippine Justice System, Wake Up! The Maguindanao Massacre which happened two years ago that killed innocent people, including journalists has still left the bereaved families mourning since after two years, no justice has been served. Why is this so? Why is justice not yet given to them? And what has it caused to our nation?
Since the massacre happened, Philippines has been marked as one of the most dangerous place for journalists. The Ampatuans, the clan which is said to be behind the killings is one of the most influential families not just in Maguindanao, but the whole Mindanao as well. Political rivalry between the Ampatuans and the Mangudadatus is said to be the reason behind the crime.
Many witnesses, including the people working for the Ampatuans has shown up to prove that Andal Ampatuan Sr. and his sons are the primary suspects to these unlawful killings. Even one of his sons is now considered as a state-witness against his father and brothers.
According to the Department of Tourism, for the first nine months this year, Philippines catered 2.88 million tourists registering a 12.02% increase as compared to last year’s arrivals. Despite this increase, the Philippines is still left behind by other countries in terms of tourism considering the beauty of our natural resources and world-class talents of our countrymen. This massacre has brought scare to visiting tourists since security given in our country is undoubtedly low as compared to other countries.
The said to be special treatment to the Ampatuans inside the jail brought bad reputation to the Philippine National Police. Videos inside the jail show the Ampatuans using cell phones and other gadgets which is prohibited inside the jail.
