Liability By Lorde Analysis
In Liability, by Lorde develops the central conflict when you cause damage it's your fault by using "Says he made the big mistake of dancing in my storm. Say it's poison." But most of all maybe the breakup was her fault. She might've caused the problem because she's famous which probably caused her to not spend enough time with her boyfriend. Lorde uses a metaphor to describe how her relationship was like in the past. (FIX) In fact, in Verse 1 she says, "I do my best to meet her standards. Then say you're a little much for me. You're a liability" (Lorde). This word liability is important to notice because Lorde might've caused the breakup. As a result, this shows that Lorde is responsible for the breakup. When she was in that relationship, her boyfriend might've realized that Lorde was too much to handle and didn't spend as much time with him as he liked. (FIX) Also, in Verse 1, she sings "Baby really hurt me. Crying in the taxi. He don't wanna know me. Says he made the big mistake of dancing in my storm" (Lorde). This sentence he don't wanna know me shows how he doesn't want to be in a relationship with Lorde. …show more content…
(FIX) Another thing to realize, is when she states "Every perfect summer's. Eating me alive until you're gone. Better on my own" (Lorde). This word better shows how much freedom she has when she isn't in a relationship with anyone. This shows that Lorde realizes how it feels being single and how much more freedom she gets when she's not in a relationship. (FIX) In addition, she also states "I understand, I'm a liability. Get you wild, make you leave" (Lorde). The word leave, leaves a hint that she's is not right for the guy. Lorde realizes that, that guy she is with is not right for her. In conclusion, Lorde finally figures out that while being a celebrity singer, its hard to maintain a relationship with someone who wants to spend a lot of time with

As a result of Lydia’s actions, Danielle and Gemma have died. Therefore, the extent of Lydia’s criminal liability for their deaths must be explored. Lydia’s culpability for their Murders must be explored before lesser offences of manslaughter can be considered. The majority of law pertaining to Murder is found in the Common Law, rather than being defined in statutes like a great deal of criminal offences. Murder, as defined by Lord Coke, is when a man of “sound memory” at the age of “discretion”, “unlawfully” kills any “reasonable creature” in any “county of the realm”. Prerequisites for murder include that the act take place “under the queen’s peace” with “malice aforethought”.1 This means that the Defendant must not be legally insane, should…

The historical nonfiction book The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson provides a comparison between the impressive White City of the Chicago World's Fair and the horror of H.H. Holmes's murder spree. It starts off in 1890 when Chicago finds out it's going to be hosting the World's Fair of 1893. Winning the bid meant so much to Chicago because it indicated that the city would finally be able to shake off the perception that it was a hog-slaughtering, greedy and isolated city. The Fair would create a more positive global reputation for Chicago. Larson argues that it was Chicago’s pride that led its people to dream big enough to win the bid for the World’s Fair. They were motivated to outdo the Paris World’s Fair of 1889, that produced the…

She can see why her parents held the whole truth from her for so long, because the real world is cruel. Her few moments in Washington D.C. made her change her views on many topics. That the Declaration of Independence has no standing if the skin of your ancestry and your family is black, and only applies to those of white background and white skintone. As the voice of African Americans were silenced and oppressed, Lorde began to voice her opinion on this corrupt holiday through her diary and her father's…

According to me, the Union would have eventually won the war. The Union had a lot of power and a better army. They had better plans to invade the land such as the ports they took, the support and the congress passing laws such as the Emancipation Proclamation. The North invaded multiple ports giving the North access to the Confederate both by land and water. The North would have soon been able to take all the land instead making them surrender.…

Ludacris does a remarkable job of portraying his message about the struggles that some adolescents are faced with. “Runaway Love”, by Ludacris, featuring Mary J. Blige (2007), represents the theme of struggle through hip-hop and rap music. It is about little girls who are “stuck up in the world on their own.” They have to take care of themselves because the people they are around do not care about them. They range from nine to eleven years in age, and their goal in life, at such a young age, is to run away from home. Ludacris is trying to get the listener to realize the struggles that even children have to face because adults are not the only ones who have problems, like most people believe. He is very successful in portraying his message through this song. Girls at that young of an age should be enjoying their childhood, but instead they are forced to become adults and take care of themselves.…

Throughout the entire passage, Lorde is convinced that she needs to mature and become realistic since America is filled with racial hatred. When she learns that her family is going to Washington D.C. as a “graduation present” (3), she “packed for a week” (7) foreshadowing her excitement to soon turn to disappointment. As she and her family ride the train she enjoys feasts and believes everything will be just as perfect in Washington D.C. as the journey there was. Her great expectation shows the childish and oblivious mind she has, to her nothing is flawed and could possibly go wrong. Her high hopes quickly become imaginative and the harsh realities of segregation are revealed forcing her to be an adult. The transition between childhood and adulthood is rapidly sped when Lorde’s family is denied service at an ice cream parlor. Instead of protest or complaint her family silently leaves as if “nothing unusual [or] anti-american” (71) happened because it is socially accepted for Blacks to feel inferior to whites. The apostrophe “american” emphasizes her ides of freedom, democracy, and equality, yet her entire family was denied those rights. In reality there is nothing she can do about it and she must live with the inequalities placed upon her. As she becomes and adult and losses her childish image of her country and society her tone from excitement to disappointment changes when the true racist America is revealed.…

Often, the lyrics to a song are what appeals to fans, and in a cover song, it is common to see some change in the lyrics from the original version. While most of the words are the same in both versions, in Houston’s cover version, the words “My darling, you…” (Houston), are present. This change emphasizes the difference of the intended meaning for the song. While both songs focus on a person, this version gives no doubt that there is a romantic interest involved. While the song ‘s origin may be specific to Dolly Parton, its sentiment remains universal. The woman in the songs knows a relationship is over, but still values the time she spent with the person she is leaving. She still wants the best for him. A main message of the song is that love…

“Love and other Catastrophes: A Mix Tape” is by Amanda Holzer is a series of all types of love songs and I think it’s really cool how someone can make a complete story out of a list of songs. The mix tape kind of tells a story and at the beginning of it, the songs are about being alone then the beginning of a relationship starting, songs like, “All by myself” by Eric Carmen, “Let’s Dance” by David Bowie, “We’ve only Just Begun” by the Carpenters and “My Girl” by the Temptations are just a few songs that are at the beginning of the mix tape. These songs are about the beginning of a relationship and the beauty and happiness that comes along with a new relationship. Sort of in the middle the relationship becomes a little rocky and unpredictable and hints of cheating. Songs like “There goes My Baby” by the Drifters, “What’s Going On?” by Marvin Gaye, “Where Did you Sleep Last Night” by Leadbelly, “Your Cheatin’ Heart” by Tammy Wynette are a few songs that enter the middle of the mix tape. But towards the end, the songs get colder and we see that the relationship is over. “Breaking up is Hard To Do” by Neil Sedaka, “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor, “All Out of Love” by Air Supply and “All By Myself” by Eric Carmen are the final songs that end the relationship so to speak. We see through this mix tape that people start out alone and they end up alone in the end.…

“Don’t Hurt Yourself” was the type of song that could leave any true Beyoncé fan a bit shocked. Usually she is not so blatantly vulgar and instead keeps a cleaner image, but that all went south with this particular music video. In the “Anger” portion of Lemonade, Beyoncé allows herself to be genuinely angry in such an unapologetic way. For once, a black woman has let herself feel all of her rage from the lens of a black woman herself, instead of through the eyes of an onlooker who does not live the same experience. In the “Intuition” portion of of Lemonade before the song “Hold Up”, the poetic lines describe how, “In the tradition of men in my blood, you come home at 3 a.m. and lie to me. What are you hiding? The past and the future merge to meet us here. What luck. What a f*cking curse.” This prompted the discussion of the way that black love exists and functions for me. Due to the horrors of the past, the way we experience our love has been damaged and altered to such a point that we as black women feel as though we have to accept any type of treatment from the one we truly love. It has become such a deep…
